As I stated in My Panzer Lehr Panther Ausf.A thread just got back into the hobby. My first build since coming back was the Tamiya Marder III M. Here are some Pics of the current progress, from almost completed assembly to painting and some weathering. Feel free to comment.

During Painting I actually ended up breaking the left side antenna thing about 3x... I had a Murphy's law thing going on... I ended up fabricating a new one later on. Looking back at the pictures brings bad memories of the whole ordeal lol. Think the Pictures show just before it broke off the third time.

Some weathering applied

Nice Tammi Marder, Pete!

Turns out I am building one of those Tammy's for the Marder Madness campaign! It's a nice kit and a great (IMHO, of course ) builder - stuff mostly goes together well and the detail is pretty good - although I had some AM stuff lying around, so...

My primary disconcerts lie with that 2-piece barrel (which I did use but which caused me some grief) and the kit tracks - which I (luckily had them around!) swapped for some Tristar links.

Looks like you managed to get those tracks on OK - I wanted some sag, myself, but looks like yours fit OK. Your gun barrel looks good from what I can see - again a kit-part I liked least with this thing!

It's a pleasing build. I would offer a couple of suggestions which I think you can hit on pretty easily:

1) Those shell-holders in the fighting room... get inside them with a small brush and dry-brush in some "steel" and maybe some dark rust, or maybe get in there with plenty of dark oil-wash - these tinny things had shells slammed down into them, etc., and should, I think, look pretty scraped and dirty inside?

2) You (and almost I, too! ) carried on that ugly build mistake that perhaps generations of builders have "faithfully" done! I refer to the gun-mount. That trunion rail - that trough-like piece the barrel and breech slide or recoil back along - is alas kitted as 2 pieces which are mated together... leaving an ugly and way-out-of-place seam down the inside middle. UGH! But EASY to fix! Cut a thin strip of alum foil just wide enough to fit inside there between the sides, and glue it in with almost anything - even wet paint. Paint the foil over with your base dunkelgelb, and apply some dirt and grunge and / or oil-wash and you'll look like a champ! This will completely hide that dismal mid-seam!

3) I would suggest getting in with a tiny brush with some very thin dark gray or satin-black color and gently soaking in those periscope-blocks! Those blocks were typically finished in a black enamel (though "typical" does allow some to be other colors...) and they would add a zing to that aspect of these builds.

All of above are of course just my constructive suggestions and opinions.

Looks good and looks like a Marder! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys, will definitely use the tips, will take some better pictures of the intetior and exterior with better lighting and with my brothers 400$ camera, the iPhone isn't doing any justice. I am somewhat happy with the camo job but to be honest want to break away from the standard 3 tone camo. Wish I would have left it dunkelgelb kinda.

What?! You want to break away from the classic tri-color?! Well, don't sweat it! Just... build another Marder! There were a fair number of these things around and at least a couple came in "plain" dunkelgelb, etc.!

Doesn't about everyone have multiple Marders in the stash? I have another 3 or 4 waiting once my Tammy is done!

Happy Modelling!

I know the Germans got real creative with the 3 tone camo but really want each individual tank to stand out a little on the shelves, I want to be historic as possible yet have each tank be unique. Lol I have another Marder III M in my eBay cart... It's the Dragon kit with white washed Marder on the box art. The next tank I'm going to start this Saturday is the Dragon 3 in one Nashorn kit. I will do a complete build on this bad boy. Will probably do a eastern front 2 tone camo of dark yellow with thin green squiggly lines. Going to buy some archer dry transfers and maybe some PE parts, but this kit looks good from the box. After the Nashorn I plan to do a Hetzer and King tiger. I also got a eduard FW190 A8 sitting on the shelf begging to get built. The reason I'm going all out back into this hobby is that my Job has me away from home mon-fri and and on the weekends now love to be home relaxing and building Models lol!

Great job, well done. The three part camo is well done. Check out all of the history documentaries on "you tube" lots of camo shown (I know its black and white film but you know what to look for!)
In my old job as a military museum curator I got to talk to a veteran of the 5th SS Pz Div. He was a gunner on a King Tiger. In the course of our conversation I asked him what the color scheme was for his Tiger, he said it was just the sand yellow that we all know of. No camo patterns. I asked if he had any "victory" rings on the barrel. (He had 35 kills -all Soviet tanks). He said they had no rings. If they had they would have been killed by the Russians if they had been captured.

Thank you, I think by now I have seen every documentary involving WW2 on Youtube lol. Also every Model build video and especially that Japanese series Plamo Tsukurou. I have a lot of reference books at home as well... my favorites are the Osprey series.

Nice one Peter, You realy have a skill with free hand airbrushing. Not sure if this particular Marder was with the SS but the crews uniforms are SS, The insignia isnt very visible but I noticed the absence of the eagle on the left sleeve

Good luck with Your next project, and if You are traveling a lot and would like to take Your modeeling stuff with You, try out this :

Dude, thanks for the link that is a awesome idea!! I'm away from Monday through Friday and practically live in a hotel on the weekdays. As for tr SS crew I'm going to pick up some archer SS crew insignia dry transfers. Which include the shoulder eagle present on the dot 44 uniform, I basically did a generic Marder, could be Wehrmacht or SS, the numbering will either make it or brake it lol.
