Good evening all,

After completing a 1/35 Maus last year, I’ve decided to jump in and have a “go” at Trumpeter’s E-100. I’m planning on doing it in a city setting, Berlin actually, and will incorporate some soldiers around it. I mainly want to use both the tank and the soldiers to give a sense of scale.

I’m planning on making the turret completely painted with some sort of camo on it. For the main structure, I’m considering bare metal with oxidation. I’m not a fan of red primer, but we’ll see. I want it to look different.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Here’s tonight’s progress:

Jacob

When ready for the painting stage I suggest using AK Interactive late war 1945 colors. lets say the war lasted a couple of months to a year longer that late in the game with all the shortages of supplies and equipment the Germans where facing, Paint included, the tank would have been mostly Oxide red Primer with a dusting of dunkelgelb or late war green color, I doubt anything fancy. I like the Idea of painting some parts and leaving others a primer color etc. good luck and post pics of the painting process.

Thanks for the suggestion; I actually picked that set up even before I picked the kit up! The colors are fantastic. I'm anxious to paint, but I'm taking my time to texture the tank. I'll have more updates tonight I hope!

have you thought of painting he barrel in the dark grey heat resistant primer? I think it will look neat!

I thought about doing that as it'd add some contrast if I do any bare metal with some color to the tank. I did the grey primer look on a Jagdtiger and I loved the look.

I want it to look like it was put together/ prepared for combat at the last moment but is still able to keep up with the hustle and bustle of taking some hits.

Thanks for the feedback!

Good evening all,

I made some more progress tonight. I added some more texture to the turret and to the actual deck of the tank. It’s looking pretty good so far. I’ll add the further details tomorrow or the day after.

I also made some progress with the Friul tracks by dipping them in some Blacken’ It. They turned out pretty well and I’ll be making my way to airbrush them a bit and add some pigments.

As always, comments are appreciated.

Quick question for you folks: What's the best way of creating a ruin-covered street with rubble? I want that really dusty kind of look to it.

I'm going to have my E-100 behind the rubble in sort of a hull-down position. Obviously the surrounding buildings will be a bit torn apart and there will be debris in the road. I want it to look convincing with bricks and all sorts of stuff in it.

Thoughts?

Good evening everyone,

I made a little more progress tonight. I joined the top and bottom tonight and also added some photo-etch. I’ll add some further details tomorrow and try to improve some of the weld lines on the rear of the tank.

Progress is coming slow, but it’ll be worth all the nit-pickiness once I’m in the painting stages. As always, comments and feedback are appreciated.

Good evening guys,

I finally finished all the assembly and fitting of the tank. I primed the tank in black and then did an overspray of grey to add some contrast before I begin painting. I’ll pop the turret off and paint it its appropriate colors. I’m leaving the wheels off for last so that I can get behind them with pigments and dirt.

As always, C&C is appreciated.

My...that's a BIG one...

Nice build so far!! Love that RB barell...I bought one for my Trump Kanone 43 Krup. The muzzle brake isnt accurate (holes too big and quantity too small), but I think it looks great. Go crazy with the camo!!!

Great start on the model and the "what if" camo options for this tank are almost limitless which is one of the great things about modeling these 'paper panzers'.

I shall follow this with interest - Go Jacob!

Good evening,

Made some further progress tonight: I textured the side skirts, primed them and added them to the tank. I’m working on the long task of sanding all of the road wheels now. I’ll start coating the tracks tomorrow at some point.

As always, C&C is appreciated.

You think they're too big? Damn, I thought they were spot on. I could swap the one in the kit with the one that's currently on it.

Thanks for the encouragement guys!!

Great build. I wouldn't worry too much about muzzle brake, as this is what if tank anyways one can always think that it's modified to tank use

Good evening guys,

It’s been a busy week, but here’s an update.

The chips and weathering will be subdued with the pigments and others that I add to the tank. It's going to look well-used and poorly maintained in a '46-'47 environment if the Germans had held out a bit longer.

As always, any C&C is appreciated.

hey jake tank looks awesome and i really like the cammo pattern you went with. only thing i will say is that im guessing that the AK acrylic is similar formula to the vallejo paints and thats why the worn areas look more like the paint just peeled off as opposed to areas or wear, tear, and abrasion. as easy to use and spray i find that the polyurithane paints dont suit the task of chipping with the HS/CF method as well as tamyia does in my experience. but either way thats reguardless cuz you have one wicked lookin heavy hitter there. i cant wait to see it fully weathered and in a dio:) keep up the good work
cheers

Thanks! I realized that too. I'm going to go back now and actually use some lighter colors/white to create the 3-D effect for the chips.

Jake

That thing looks stupid, like a flying saucer. Why all the chips, those thing never fought that much? Paper panzers are ruining the hobby...

Hiya Jake, looks like a good bit of work you have done. Keep going, need to see this at Nordic Con.

Hello everyone,

After getting a great book for my birthday, I decided to take a different approach to my E-100. Why not something….frosty? So I stripped the tank down, took to the hairspray method and went to work.

I applied a camo scheme seen a lot on the Eastern front as I wanted to simulate this tank being in an SS company pushing back towards the east. I then applied a white wash, took to heavily weathering it and then I applied an ochre filter. Next I’ll be mapping more spots with white enamel paint to create the look of reapplied white washes, but I’ll save that for later as it’s been a long night.

Still a long way to go. Next up, mapping and some OPR!

All the best,
Jake

Good evening ladies and gents,

I made some further progress on the E-100 tonight, specifically the turret. I added some enamel paint here and there to give the effect of reapplied whitewashes. I also tried my hand at some Eduard stenciling for the insignias!

As always, C&C is appreciated.

Thanks!! I tend to TRY to keep my paint a bit organized...it's a losing battle though!

Not too much more progress tonight. I went to work carefully adding more of the whitewash mapping layers. I’ll be doing some oils, filters and pin washes here shortly.

As always, C&C is appreciated!

Evening all!

Didn’t make too much more progress tonight. I’m in the fine details stage of the beast so it’s coming to a crawl now. I was going to originally enter this in a contest set for the 21 of September, but I won’t be able to make it due to a wedding. So, I have an entire extra year to get this guy just right and the base I’m creating for it.

Pin washing, filters and oil paint rendering will be the name of the game for the next 10 or so hours of this project.

As always, C&C is appreciated.

All the best,

Jake
