On the M1114 I don't believe the .50 barrels are attached because of the blast door separating the cargo area from the troop compartment
M1114's don't have the cargo area configured to carry additional crew served weapons like the original M1025/M1026 Armament Carriers did. The original M1025/M1026 was primarily designed with MP units in mind. At the time of design of the vehicle, MP units were typically authorized 1 ea M60 Light Machine Gun, 1 ea M2 .50 cal and 1 ea MK. 19 Grenade Machine Gun per vehicle. So, the cargo area was designed to hold the two weapons that were not mounted.
As the design matured and rebuilds took place, the internal configuration of each vehicle was focused toward a particular weapon. The evolution of the load plan is reflected in TM's as they were updated over the years.
As an example...I have a HMMWV TM dated January 1996. Appendix F shows on-vehicle equipment load plans. There are specific load configurations for TOW Carriers, Marine Armament Carriers with both the M2 and MK 19, Air Force vehicles with MK 19 and M60, Armament Carriers with MK 19 only, Armament Carrier with M2 .50 cal only, and Armament Carrier with M60 only.
As the Expanded Capacity vehicles came into service, the Army got away from multiple crew served weapons being assigned to one vehicle thus the internal configurations of M1114's, M1151's reflect that by not having additional crew served weapon storage brackets like the M1025/M1026 and other legacy Armament Carriers. You are correct though, as you stated, that if you tried to secure the .50 cal in the cargo space of an M1114, you would have to remove the barrel for it to fit.
I will shut up now.
