Prior to CARC Tri color NATO, all vehicles were painted Foresr Green FS 30479 in prep for camo painting MERCD at the unit level.
Be sure to check the FS number as different brands vary in actual name and Forest Green is pretty generic. Most paint companies have this green because it was so common and pervasive.
Would love to see your Bradley or Abrams in its original solid green!

No, you are using 34079 Dk Green.
Forest Green is 30479. The numbers are almost the same, but the 4 and the 0 are in defferent positions.

Sorry,
I gotta throw the BS flag...
FS34079 is Forest Green according to the FS 595 Color Chart - I checked at the original FS Chart as well as the FS 595c version. The FA 30479 number that Bruce mentioned is in the brown/tan range of colors - I would guess that he transposed the 4 & 0 while typing.

OOPs, color me with a stupid pencil...
Teach me to rely on a google search for info.
According to my bottles of MM enamels 34079 is Dark Green and 34127 is Forest Green. That sure doesn't match up with the FS595. And I am pretty sure that I would take the FS standard as gospel and say that Testors got it wrong.
My appologies for muddying the waters.

Leroy,
No problems... I just wanted to get this straightened out before it went too far. Actually, I looked it up as I knew that 34087 was in the ballpark and wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing some other color of green.
Concur that Testors got the numbers wrong on their bottles, I have never noticed that before, despite using their paint off an don for 30(+) years... No blood, no foul

My bad, that was from memory. You're right the numbers were transposed, not in typing but in my head! It's the color I buy the most of since I use it for everything US except the modern NATO green.
Even all the add on kits and accessories come out of the box in this color. My old M151 I drive has all the add on stuff that color, like the roll over protection system, antenna mount, fording kit, etc.
Really old items that get added to a vehicle might end up with old OD like a searchlight or something. The plastic antennae bases are old OD as well. Also, add on equipment that was a take off from another vehicle might be a whole different color if it were painted on the prior vehicle.
