Thanks for the review. I jut bought this kit last week and it will be a great help. You said that the pontoons can be assembled either on or off th etank. Is there any way they can be made removable?

Pretty neat, but it is not an AMTRAC. AMTRAC stands for Amphibious TRACtor, which is a personnel carrier. This is an amphibious tank (AMTANK?), but not an AMTRAC.

Gino, you are correct, but sadly the software here doesn't give us enough space to write "amphibious tank," so I figured "amtrac" would get your attention.

And I was right!

Brian,

No, I don't think the pontoons can be made removeable from just what's in the box. It is either on or off... unless you are clever enough to fabricate some kind of working fittings to secure them. You could always build this one with the pontoons on and the earlier "Combat Version" without them - they would make an interesting side-by-side comparison!

Nice!!!!!!!! Last week I pick up one to my stash and the kit its beautiful!!!!! The pontoons are not removable. You have the option to on or off

Thanks for the review Tim! I think this kit is a better value for the money than their initial release, but I love them both

Hi, All! That's my plan- I've already got the KA-MI without the pontoons, and will be buying one with pontoons very shortly. That's how I model in my own collections; all are built in an evolutionary progression, whether it's 1/35 armor, 1/48 aircraft, 1/24-1/25 automobiles or HO brass steam-era locomotives...

I made some more progress on my Ka-Mi. That 37mm gun assembly is a thing of beauty!


Here’s the view through the aft turret hatch:

Unfortunately, all this will be difficult to see after it is installed. It looks good under extreme lighting for the picture, but once the turret is on the hull and the trunking added on top it will be pretty dark in there.

The view looking down through the hatch above is already fairly dismal:


Oh well, at least I’ll know it is in there!

Thanks Tim for the excellent review.
I've had my eye on one of these since the CH release and lo and behold last week Hobbyspace sent me an alluring email offering these up for US$30. Needless to say the kit moratorium I'd promised I'd undertake went by the wayside
Still at least it sounds like it will be worth the "guilt".

Regarding the tightness of the DS tracks, can these be stretched slightly by being placed in warm (not hot) water?

Nice review, I'll probably buy this just because the appearance is so different to any military vehicle ever produced.

Does anyone do indy tracks for this tank?
