how credible would it be for say the 101st airborne being moved to a marine base to be transporting supplies as they move and then are ambushed but fortunetly there is a nearby marine amphibious unit to provide support?

What era? Vietnam, modern, WW2?
Without knowing that you could probably look up some training exercises that might fit the bill. If you're going more modern, I know that during Desert Shield the 82nd used some USMC LAVs.

My unit served as the QRF (Task Force Scorpion) for 1st Armored Dvision units based out of LSA Dogwood in 2003, we had all the LAV variants except for the AD which had retrograded with 1st LAR. We did route clearance, supported VCPs, escorted convoys, investigated suspected IEDs, and responded to ambushed units on Route Sue and the MSRs to Baghdad. If you go for summer '03 and are willing to go 1st AD instead of 101st you'll be spot on, feel free to pick my brain on it, we had quite a bit of contact with bad guys for the first couple months we were in the area.

very informative , only reason I was going to make it modern day was because of the multicam pattern is what I favor , out of curiosity what type of bdu's were you issued in 03? Im going to have a marines aavp7a1 pulled up by a Humvee with the 101st airborne figs I have.My unit served as the QRF (Task Force Scorpion) for 1st Armored Dvision units based out of LSA Dogwood in 2003, we had all the LAV variants except for the AD which had retrograded with 1st LAR. That's the beauty of '03, the Marines had a mix of uniforms some had the MARPAT desert digis (they were in the supply system but not prevalent) the rest had the 3 color desert cammies. The Interceptor OTVs were either woodland or coyote, occasionally you'd see ALICE mag pouches mixed with MOLLE gear, some guys had MOLLE canteen carriers, although once in a great while you'd see an ALICE carrier. The Army had the 3 color desert uniforms and Interceptor OTVs in woodland camoflage almost exclusively and they had MOLLE gear, don't recall seeing any with the old ALICE pouches. BTW, thinking back my platoon did an op with MP's from the 101st in al Hayy at an Iraqi Police Station; we rolled into town one night and set up shop for a couple days, no contact with bad guys, but I do recall seeing a HMMWV that broke down at a VCP come towed into our perimeter by a -25.

Happy to help, brother. Feel free to pick my brain, if anything else comes up during your project. One thing about the uniforms, they faded pretty fast because we were doing laundry in 5 gallon buckets by hand with whatever detergent we found. I used good ol' Ivory bar soap once or twice.
