I've had good luck as well, mostly dealing with modelers or shops.
But be careful, there are sellers out there who pad the 'handling' portion of shipping and handling to increase their profits , and incidentally screw e-bay out of their share since Ebay gets their cut off the of the selling price. Teamjoedawn springs to mind.
After getting burned by them on this very thing, I am going to be very careful about bidding on auctions with hidden 'handling' charges.
I don't mind paying a buck or even two for brown paper wrapper and tape, but this $5+ for 'the long trip to the postoffice ' is garbage.

Given up on Ebay, most stuff in the UK sells for more on ebay than it does in a shop, so why bother. Either that or people want silly prices for stuff, a Peerless Chevy gun tractor went for over £30 sterling, when the Italeri version is only £13.99; apart from the box what's the difference.
Of course if someone only wants it for the box and label, I'll be happy to sell them an empty one after I've made the model ( which is what the kit is for - building not storing!)

That sucks Dave
I can usually get some model kits cheaper then hobby shops and find some rare and old kits at Ebay.

I've had real good luck buying kits off Ebay. I decide what I'm going to pay and bid that , but generally have gotten it a bit cheaper. I'm tracking a Tamiya m4a3 Sherman now. Want to swap parts with my Italrie M4a1. I have rotten luck buying Order of the Arrow flaps. can't believe what some people will pay for some of that stuff.

My post is based on the fact that I've never won anything on ebay - I look at the prices that even rare kits go for in online places that specialise in old kits, set a limit beneath that and bid up to that limit, including comparing postage. If it goes for shop price or above I don't get it, simple.
At least from a shop I KNOW that it's complete, unstarted etc. That's what auctions do I suppose, you take your risks when you join in, I just won't pay over the odds for something.

Mike I agree wholeheartedly !!
It's amazing how many people will fall for a low starting price on something with outrageous shipping/handling costs. There's a car parts dealer who wants to charge $30 to ship things from Brazil..it completely wipes out the savings on the part! I do a handfull of sales there and I always try to charge the absolute minimum for shipping...usually $5 total for one model, unless it's heavy or is going really far, then I try to figure out the actual cost. I wish others would do the same.

Yeah, When I sell stuff I always charge actual postage...never mind the paper and tape charge! But that shipping can be a real pain even when it is actual cost...too expensive in my humble opinion. But it is mainly due to the airlines not doing so well (fewer planes flying, less room in flying planes to put in US Postage...etc.)
But you can get some real good deals on ebay as well...persistance and patience will pay off...i have gotten a Tamiya M26 Dragon Wagon for $60 and a Famo for $30...still sealed. Just took a couple months to get them at those prices

I always look at what the shipping charges are before I bid on a kit. I ran across one that had a $ 20.00 shipping charge on a M1A1 kit., I sent a RC airplane kit to a guy in TN From here in VA that weighed 28 Pounds for 25.00 in shipping charges. But other than that, I have gotten some good deals on ebay also

That is nothing but good business sense! I have bought a lot of items on eBay, just remember that the UK is not the only option, I have gotten some very good bargains from the Europe, US, HK and even Malaysia (incl shipping). Most shops charge £5.00 P&P, this is usually equal to shipping from USA and Malaysia (HK is usually ±£8.00).
I have bought quite a few Trumpeter products (incl P&P) for cheaper than it is priced in most UK shops (excl P&P).
A good source for Verlinden products is Europe (Belgium obviously). I have gotten most of my Verlinden items in this way. Example M1 Dozer kit sells in the UK for ±£25.00, I paid £12.00 (incl P&P).
I have had some mishaps and SquareTrade helps in that respect, but used as a last resort! Also using Paypal to pay with connected to a Credit Card has its advantages!
