hi everyone

i was wondering if anyone can help - ive been trawling the net for woodland scenics suppliers in the uk, mainly the south/south east if possible, and regards w/scenics water - what kind of price (£) would i be looking at. I couldnt find a single thing about it for the uk, only a railway modeller site that did w/scenics ballast.

any suggestions would be brill

cheers alpha

woodland scenics are distributed in the uk by bachmann, a model railway company.
so you can only usually find woodland scenics stuff where they stock lots of model railway stuff. my local model shop sells a few products, like the rock moulds and some water effects.
but 'the model centre' in nottingham sells the full range, and do mail order.
i can get you their number if thats any help, pm me if you want it.

woodland scenics stuff is usually pretty expensive though!

cheers

I would suggest to keep away from Woodland Scenics just for the price of it. What they sell in small quantities and big prices can be found in other materials and brands lot cheaper and also use your brain and scratchbuilding talents instead, use everyday materials and house building and repairing materials

thanks for the advice guys - i guess thats the way it goes with 'brand name' stuff. now to consider - to buy or not to buy....? i can scratchbuild for the most part no probs but ill have to do some serious thinkin when it comes to the water - its a ditch that i need to represent, so ill have a think and see where i get.

thanks for the help. alpha

Before you buy the Woodland Scenics stuff, go to an art store or general hobby store and look for gloss medium or porable gloss medium. It works the same (thin layers at a time). It can be tinted. For white water, waterfalls, etc., look for gloss gel or paste. They are also tintable with acrylics as they are acrylic.

Don't know what part of England you live in ( I lived in Pinner for three years), but youhave a great hobby store mentioned in the Osprey "Terrain Modeling" book, that carries things I can't get here easily like rubberized horsehair for brambles and Flex-i-bark for trees.

Be glad to ship you any Woodlands Scenics stuff you want for some of the stuff at the 4D Model Shop in London.

Also, be careful as much of the Woodlands stuff is geared toward HO railroading and the scale is not great for 1/35th scale.

hey easy co

thanks - ill have a look into historex too. I'm gradually finding that mail order is currently alot better than my local modelshop - even tho they can order stuff in sometimes they can be a little reluctant.

cheers again , alpha
