Hi there,
I signed up to this forum on the 21st of March 2012. I was on the border of giving up the hobby , because after 20 years of building kits and only talking about them in my LHS, and even only showing two built models once in the local LHS, I was getting bored .
I must also say up until September 2011 I didn't even have a PC at home. All my reference came from books and travelling around. I think I'm very lucky as I was born in England
which is covered with War Museums. I now live in Germany where I stayed after my military service in the 80's, Germany has also a great number of museums close by to where I live, or just across the border (Holland/France/Belgium/Poland).
I'm ranting on again, I just wanted to say that I'm glad I joined up here .
Here are my builds from that day in March 2012 till now:-
that's 19 builds in in 15 months, I'm going to have to move house at this rate
Thanks to the staff running the place and everyone who takes
part in the campaigns. It saved me from taking up knitting,
glass painting, or serviette printing

Food for thought, why I keep building.

Some excellent models in a beautiful cabinet. Glad you stuck with it. Sometimes, I wish I lived in Europe.

Hey Paul,
I can totally understand! I've been building for the last 43 years and there have been times when I have thought about giving it all up. Fortunately, I was in the military an stationed all over and that really reignited my passion for the hobby. Now it is not only a hobby but it is also therapy for me due to injuries sustained while on active service. I also had all kinds of inspiration from the guys here on this forum and that in itself makes me push my talents that much further.

If I had a cabinet like that to put my finished models and the space, I would have a lot more done also
Looks good
Cheers

Gee Paul, I'm so sad to see you're such a slow builder!
(I've been averaging 1 every 3 months. ) Your models look really nice in that excellent display space. Keep it up!
Europe (incl the UK) is definitely the place to be if you've into the history. There's so much available that's (compared to the US) right at your fingertips. In that respect, you're a lucky guy!

Dude these things are dangerous!!! Needles and glasses, i dont want to know what the last one is, (but in my language is a REALLY bad thing to hear from a man to say) Stick to modelling, it's safer and you also throw in here some really good campaign ideas.
PS. Cool photos.

A kit every three months? That's lightning speed compared to me. I thought once the kids were grown and out of the house that I could get back into the hobby after my hiatus, but immediately realized something. I had no place to work on my models where our few (read, small army of) cats couldn't get to.
Maybe one day I'll be able to make one of the empty bedrooms into my office. Someday.
And the models look great.

Would love to see close ups of the models, especially the ones with groundwork to see how a modeller develops without the influence of the internet. Although I think the internet is great and has been one of the main reasons this hobby lifted again, there too many models being finished all looking the same (same inspiration feeds).
Erm.....

Hi Paul ... Glad to see you stuck with it ...It's true that the internet has been a godsend to the model industry (who could believe that one day we could have questions answered by people like S.Zaloga ...Mig ...and so many others that we could only see in the magazines )
Armorama has been around for a long time and we have seen it develop over the years into a great place for inspiration and learning ... I've learned more in the last 10 yrs than in the 25 yrs before that ..
I wish I could have more time to build and would love to have a display case like yours ..
Keep the kits coming and I hope to join a few more Group builds this year .. So I'll see you there ...
Rick

Hi there, and thank you all for kind words of encouragement.
Many of you like my cabinet/display case, well that is not the only one as you will shortly see.
The internet can be a great help for which I'm sure, but I must also say that what I've seen on reference, I already have at home in books or my own photos. I have asked two questions on this site for myself, which shows that the info is out there in hardware form and you really don't need the Internet for it.
But that is another discussion into which I don't wish to go into here.
O.k. here's a few more pics from my 14 qm "man den" or "big kids room"
The cabinets (they need dusting again )
my beloved feind, she just sniffs at them. Thank the lord.
before I had internet 2006
1999
2001 Tamiya and Azimuth and scratch
199? both Tamiya with scratch and CMK interiors
CMK gearbox. I had very little knowledge of what a PzIV D looked like from the inside at this point of time.
I hope you liked this little tour of my display/ build room.
and thanks again
Paul
