Hi all,
Has anyone here built the old Verlinden "Soldier at Rest" figure as shown in the pic below? For those of you who have built this figure or who are familiar with it, is the figure attached to the vignette base, or is he a separate piece? I have heard that he comes with a couple of different boots and helmets in order to depict either a US or German soldier; is this true?
Despite the relative popularity of this figure, it has proven to be quite hard to find any other photos of it besides the official ones from Verlinden (ie: that shown below). Does anyone have any pics of this figure, preferably OOB prior to assembly and painting?
I am thinking of using this guy in one of my current builds and will appreciate any help that you guys can give me. Thanks in advance for your help with this guys.

Hi Jason,
I have this figure (assembled and painted already) somewhere in my spare parts box. The figure itself is not attached to the base, they're seperate parts. The figure has an upper and lower body, loose arms and legs (feet). I'm unsure about the different boots and helmets but I don't think there were more versions included.
All in all it's a nice figure in an original pose, don't think you'll be disappointed.
best regards,
Mark

Hi Jason,
like Mark already said all parts are seperate and in my opinion there are one German helmet and one US helmet in this set. Also one pair of German boots and one pair of US boots. All Figure parts are in white metal and not Resin. The base comes in plaster (#M121). The newer ones(#520)are in Resin. The bag is molded into the base, but the helmets and boots are cast separately in metal or resin dependent in which Version you have. For use as US soldier the figure works well. The jacket is closely an M1943 jacket, except the pockets do not have the pointed flaps. The legs are also separate pieces in the resin version, but they are molded to the main body on the metal figure like in the set i have. The fit is OK but you will need to fill some gaps with miliput. Itīs more on the big side and about 54mm, so hornet heads are to small.
Hope this helps
Stefan

Mark and Stefan,
Thanks for the quick replies guys. You have both just told me all that I need to know and can now head out and buy this figure. I am sure that it will fit nicely with the dio that I have it in mind for, despite being a little over-scale. That shouldn't matter too much though because I plan to display this guy on his own without any other figures for him to dwarf.
Cheers,
Jason

Hey Andy, thanks for your reply and for the link. I have since bought the figure and have started in on the assembly. It really is a great figure with a fantastic pose. EXCELLENT work on the fountain vignette BTW! You have really brought that to life.
