In the ETO, the uniforms were OD Green and Khaki but with wear and tear and weather they would fade. I would recommend that you start out with those two colors and dry-brush them to a nice faded look. Have Fun !!!

Hi, I follow this site for US olive drab.
http://www.usarmymodels.com/uniformsandequipment.html
Khaki its a "hue" not an official color. Also if you search for color photos in Life, you can found some of us troops, wearing all OD uniforms, but with severals differences, due the wear, light, brand etc of the uniforms.
An extract, but read all the items
"Technically there is no such color as khaki when referring to U.S. WWII uniforms and equipments. The U.S. Army standard color was Olive Drab, shade #7 and #9. Khaki is a more modern collectors term and the confusion over color comes in because the standard changed in 1943 to the darker shade of OD. The earlier lighter shade of OD varied greatly from a pea green to a dirty tan, and even a medium green color with the most common being the color collectors now refer to as khaki. There is also variation in the latter darker OD from an even green color to a dirty greenish brown."
Welcome to chaos....

Hi, All! If I may add another suggestion? I like to mix my own colors for painting all of my WWII US ARMY uniform colors, and I always use this book for my references: "THE WORLD WAR II GI- US Army Uniforms -1941-45- In Color Photographs" by Richard Windrow and Tim Hawkins, published by The Crowood Press...
This book shows actual WWII US Army uniforms, worn by live re-enactors in realistic settings. The color photos are excellent, and they cover the Infantry, Rangers, Cavalry and Armor uniforms and equipment as used in the US, European, Mediterranean, African and Pacific Theaters of Operations. Dress and Combat uniforms are shown and described in great detail, but in a very readable format. The book is expensive, but I feel that this is the most accurate and colorful reference that money can buy!!!
PS- Other books in this series cover WWII British & Commonwealth forces as well...

Pants and shirts on the figures shown are the Herringbone Twill or "HBTs". These are a medium to light green color, not grey as called for in the instructions. Vallejo Panzer Aces series color number 318 "US Army Tank Crew" is a good place to start for this color. Highlight and shade this color as needed.
The Tanker jackets (officially known as the Winter Combat Jacket) on figures A and B are indicated to be painted in Olive Drab. Technically this is correct because the color was known as OD Shade #3 but it is not the same olive drab that would be used on a vehicle so the colors listed on the box are too dark. Additionally, the color could fade considerably, giving it a distinctly yellow tone. So, for these jackets, I would recommend Vallejo 879 Green Brown mixed with a bit of 914 Green Ochre for the base color of the jacket. The cuffs and collars of the jacket would be darker so use 879 Green Brown for those. Highlight and shade both as needed.
Hope this helps. Sorry I can't recommend other brands of colors but I'm sure there is a conversion chart out there somewhere.

Hi! I like to refer to my own 1:1 real WWII uniforms (Yes, I collect original WWII uniforms as well) and my World War II GI US Army Uniforms In Color Photographs book that I mentioned in one of my previous blogs. I collect Officers' and Enlisted Ranks' uniforms, in both "combat" and "dress" ensembles.
I like to "custom-mix" ALL of my paints for any subject that I build. Many of the "pre-mixed" paints made by color-blind hobby paint manufacturers are wildly inaccurate, (LIFECOLOR, VALLEJO, TAMIYA, TESTORS, etc) with some of the shades being complete figments of their own imaginations.
I don't over-do on "scale-effect" or weathering either, because I think that too much of it detracts from the subject. I like to mix and match my colors as closely as possible to my sources...
I like to start out with TESTORS MODEL MASTER II ENAMELS, simply because in my own opinion, they're more versatile, and mix well with artists' oil paints. I can add weathering powders to the mix on my pallet, giving me all kinds of very nice nuances of color, and I like thinning with WINSOR-NEWTON Mineral Spirits. The addition of weathering powders also help to keep my colors "flat", without getting progressively shinier as I shade and highlight. I like to seal with TESTORS DULLCOTE...

Please see my post above for full explanation but the colors I recommend are:
• Uniform jacket, pants and coveralls: Vallejo Panzer Aces #318 "US Army Tank Crew"
• Tanker Winter Jacket and Leggings: Vallejo Model Color #879 Green Brown + #914 Green Ochre
• Service Shoes and Gun Holster: Vallejo Model Color #940 Saddle Brown + #981 Orange Brown
• Tanker Helmet: Vallejo Model Color #887 Brown Violet
It's unfortunate that I can't give you other manufacturer's color numbers, but what I have shared should get you close to the right colors if you can find Vallejo paints. If you can't find Vallejo or prefer another brand, just use this conversion chart to find the equivalent colors.

Good luck.
