Hello, this is about D.A.K. colours...
I purchased the Vallejo RAL 8020 (71117) and it looks very dark for a desert scheme.
Are the vallejo RAL colours reliable?
Has anyone painted a vehicle using this colour?
It's for the Diana...

I can't comment on the Vallejo colour but the RAL8000/7008 Tropen scheme (2/3 RAL 8000, 1/3 7008 patches) is surely much more likely on vehicles early in the campaign. Indeed even Bovington's Tiger I, completed in February 1943 a few days before Dunkelgelb became the basic colour, carried 8000/7008.

By 'Diana', if you mean the "7.62cm F.K.(r) auf gp.Selbsfahrlafette (Sd.Kfz. 6/3)" (the 'Diana' was a planned development that was never built), all nine of these were built specifically for Africa on allocated chassis from Buessing and completed in late 1941, far too early for 8020. I'd slso hazard a guess that they were never painted Dunkelgrau under the Tropen scheme, given that they were not existing vehicles later diverted to Africa, so steer clear of any showing through the Tropen colours!

I am also curious about accuracy of Vallejo colors. I recently used Vallejo 70604 German Dark Yellow RAL 7028 thinking this would be a good base coat but it turned out to be more green then yellow. It looks like I may need to repaint it. I was doing a tiger I (late) western front 1944. Did I pick the wrong color ?

Cheers

It looks a touch too green to me too. If you have light grey primer, add roughly 5% to tone the green down.

As for dunkelgelb and the rest of the sand browns, some people swear by Vallejo's shades, some don't. I think you'll probably get a better consensus on how long a piece of string is.

Well, to me the dark grey looks to dark too, I always add some light grey to it.
Does it mean that vallejo references look too dark?
Or that the others are too light...

With Vallejo Air, there are two Dark Yellows, the one listed as Panzer Dark Yellow is not correct, the other one listed as just Dark Yellow is the correct one. I don't have the actual number with me at the moment, but will get it when I get home.
