I just want to preface things by saying I'm not the best figure painter in the world by any stretch of the imagination.
Vallejo paints are great, brush paint well, dry quick and clean up easily.
If you really want to help with your painting skills try tracking down a copy of the this DVD.

I believe it's reviewed on armorama as well. I found watching someone go through the step by step process helped a great deal.
Cheers
Jeff

Problem I have painting faces are adding in detail and different colour tones.I have tried a basic skin colour and used a flesh wash to highlight the detail but it never looks quite right.
Jeff someone uploaded that DVD on youtube and I found it helps but after an hour of watching him apply colour after colour I found myself drifting off to sleep
Ill give the game colours ago as there are lots of skin shades and it may help me apply multi layers of different colours.
Thanks Jeff/Anthony

Karl,
just keep in mind that Vallejo's Game Color line is designed as a competitor to Citadel Paints and primarily intended for application on gaming miniatures. The formulation is slightly different than Vallejo's own Model Color line with a higher level of pigmentation, brighter colors, and a tougher finish. I've noticed that it comes out of the bottle a little heavier than the Model Color but thins well with distilled water and doesn't really lose its opacity. Just thought you might like to know there is a slight difference between the two formulations.
Good luck with your face painting adventure. Nothing beats practice!

What he said. It's much better to lay down a solid base, then apply semi opaque layers to build up tones rather than straight blotches as you might with oils. These paints don't wet blend too well, so you need a bit of practice to see what works. And don't forget to swish your brushes every minute or so in water so the paint doesn't dry on the bristles and clean them thoroughly after each session. The great thing about acrylics is you don't have to wait until the next day to fix your mistakes!
