Hi,
Im currently building a BMP-1K (Using SPDesign Conversion) and I want to do it mast up.
I'm having difficulty locating details on the mast/antannae configuration.
My research so far indicates this is called a Hawkeye Telescopic Antannae.
Looking for photos/diagram of the head in particular, the conversion has that part under a cover so I have little idea of what it looks like.
Google shows all images of the lower part of the antannae, not the head and bracing.
Any help wpuld be appreciated

Excellent, may rethink it now, thought it was a wee bit simpler.

Great,
It looks conceivable that the transmitting element is seperate from the mast. The photos after the first one shows the mast with an open end.
might have a look at having the transmitting element being installed as the mast is lifted, prior to extending.
Keeps it at at reasonable height thay way.
Just need to find figures, perhaps an ammo loading set will have suitable lifting poses.
Thanks all.

Privet Luty,
I gather by your comment that we call it banana that you may have served with these?
I only found one reference to Hawkeye, and it is a little suspicious in my mind. I'm not sure what naming convention NATO would have used but I would not thought radio would start with a letter h.
Besides it suggests radar rather than radio, as in Hawkeye plane from carrier hence further dubious naming.Banana makes sense.
If you did serve can you say, is the first photo the radiating element that goes on all the others?
If yes where is it stored, inside vehicle or in box on outside somewhere?
Does the mast get raised from horizontal to vertical just by lifting or is it geared somehow?
Just finishing a scud, it's at painting stage.

Hi Scott.
I'm not served BMP-KSh.
It was mine
BMP I saw on the exercises. Antennaes are same.
Banana - just an army slang
http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A1%D0%BB%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B5%D1%81%D0%BD%D1%8B%D0%B5_%D0%BD%D0%B0%D0%B7%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%8F_%D1%80%D0%BE%D1%81%D1%81%D0%B8%D0%B9%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%B3%D0%BE_%D0%BE%D1%80%D1%83%D0%B6%D0%B8%D1%8F#.D0.91
It is a main antenna. And its working position is vertical.
The telescopic mast is always outside. Transport position - horizontal. Wires are transported in a tube container on the right side.
...by the way SP Designs BMP-1KSh set is not good.
ModelPoint one is better choice
All the best!

Privet,
Nice photo.
Is that BTR-60 PU (Air Defence Command Post Variant)as in the new Trumpeter kit. I wonder if the trumpeter kit has the mast, I didnt relaise it had the same bananna. IK thought it only had the clothes line rail around the outside. I will look in my kit of that to see if it has the radiating element.
The bit on the mast with the radiating element (wire framed football) is obviously stored somewhere. Do you know if it is one piece or do yopu construct it from parts each time?
Do you know whether the BMP ever travels with antannae partially erected, so no guide ropes onto ground but with antannae only part way up?
Hadnt seen the model point kit before, it does look very nice and crisp. Only stumbled across the SP Design when I strated buying some of his kits. I like the unusual vehicles he does ACRV, UM-77 etc.
SP Design kit will suit my needs, its gone onto a Dragon BMP-1 and that is not very good either.
Not sure what the link was that you refered to. I know its wiki, but despite 2 years of learning Russian, mine is not that good. It shows a list of Russain words starting with B and I couldnt see bananna there (even in russian)
Thanks for input, very kind of you.

On photo is R-145BM Chaika.
Yes we constructed it from parts each time.
Operating with partially erected mast is not normal.
