Need some advice help! I have the dragon kit. 54 cm Morser Karl Gerat 40/41. I looked o Squadron and they have Trumpeter tracks for the Karl. Old and new? I read that I will need to shim the drive sproket My question is which should I buy or just spend the money on the Friumodel metal tracks.
Thank you!!

Lou, I believe the Dragon kits of Karl are the late version; Trumpeter on the other hand do separate kits that represent the early and late type - the suspension is completely different between the two types, even down to there being a different number of road wheels: early = 8 road wheels with an external support girder, late = 11 larger road wheels, so easy to tell what you have got. Hence Trumpeter and Friul both produce tracks for early and late and both are primarily for the Trumpeter kits.

As I understand it, the Friul late tracks can be used with the Dragon kit, but the sprocket wheel needs to be made 0.05mm narrower in order to fit the tracks. I think this is achieved by removing some material from the mating surfaces of the sprocket halves.

Lou, I have the Trumpeter kit. I builded the late chassis 54cm mortar, used for it the Friulmodel ATL-85 kit. If the Dragon kit is the late version, you also need the ATL-85. A few photos of two different vinyl tracks of my Trumpeter kit. The lower one is the late type track.

And finally two pictures of Friul tracks.

Geez Lou, you must be a glutton for punishment! You just got done with that K-5, and now you're jumping right on a "Karl"?

Antal ANT 1969 thank you for the reply. I got an e mail from Friumodel that the ATL-84 would fit the Loki. I looked at the kit and it is titled 54 cm Morser LOKI Gerat 041. Dragon kit number 6181 -03. It has 11 road wheels with no support bar. Here is a photo of the kit and the gun in action.
Matthew firstcircle thank you for your input and info.
Bob AFV Fan Right now I am writing this and re arranging he guest room closet. The BOSS(wife) is giving me a storage space in there for my stash and for my pant and glues etc. Perhaps paint and glue will last longer in the house as opposed to int the garage 100 in summer and 28 in winter.
I don't know what kit to do next. The 1/35 54 cm Loki, or the final helo for my Vietnam years a 1/35 CH 47A Chinook. Both are big.If I do the Loki I have to then do the Munitions sclepper. The Chinook will go next to the UH-1 Slick and my OH-6 Loach. Oh I have a 1/144 C-17 because we fly a lot space a on those birds.

To anyone who reads this what would you suggest?????

Can't say which you should do next, but I've been wondering if there should be a Karl campaign, to get everyone's Karl kit out of the way in one go - I bet there's a lot of stashed Karls! Including mine...

Matthew,I have 2 Karls for sale or trade in the trading/sale section. They are 1/72.Got them before I got the 1/35 scale Loki. I like the longer tube. A Karl Campaign might be fun.

"I got an e mail from Friumodel that the ATL-84 would fit the Loki."

Lou, I was surprised that the Friulmodel wrote this. Imho they are wrong, the ATL-84 just fit to 8-road wheels chassis and ATL-85 to 11-road wheels chassis.
Otherwise, I saw this pic from your Dragon kit, and these track links too similar ATL-85, not ATL-84. Or am I wrong?

What sized your track link? Here is a photo of my Friul ATL-85 link.
