Hi,
right now I am building the Academy HMMWV M1025 with a lot of PE detail parts butI have no idea which color I would have to use for the US woodland or desert camo.
Reason for this is, that usually I am modelling on the fantasy or SF-side of this hobby (where mostly I can use any color that I want), but this time it is different.
I want to get as near to the real thing as possible.
Normally I am using Vallejo-Colors, but they do not work so well with the hairspray-method, so I would like to give Livecolor or Tamiya-Colours a try.
Is there a summary or comparison chart, which color from which brand (especially Vallejo, Livecolor and Tamiya) should be used on modern US vehicles?
Thank you in advance
Thomas

Hallo Thomas,
if you paint a HMMWV, you can only paint in CARC three tone scheme or desert sand. AFAIK no HMMWV where delivered in MERDC
(Woodland). I usually use Tamiya Acrylics for painting. Their XF-67 NATO Green is a good base color. I also use XF-1 Black and XF-64 Redbrown for camo colors. Maybe other member cxan give you a comparison fro other color systems. May i ask if you want to build a Germany based vehicle?
Best regards
Hans-Hermann

Hallo Hans-Herrmann,
Thank you for your quick reply.
This Humvee will not be a Germany placed vehicle.
It will be in a near future scenario as a privately owned car, scraped together from different sources. So I will mix up parts in Desert Yellow and Woodland Camo.
Maybe I will post the diorama build process here (it's a matter of time)
Cheers

If the above is the case, you could also mix in some NATO green parts as well since repair parts come in overall NATO green and sand.

If you're doing it as a vehicle scavenged from a number of different sources over time, then whoever has been keeping the vehicle running may have decided to apply some field camo paint over the vehicle as it existed at some point in time, which would likely weather heavily due to being applied sloppily (i.e., not being washed before painting, so the paint doesn't adhere well). So you could have parts in CARC three-color and/or desert sand with a badly-worn overspray of some other color(s), broken up by parts in CARC three-color or desert sand that were replaced after the overspray was applied. It depends on the story you want to tell with the vehicle.
