Anyone know what the racks on the side of the m10 wolverine and the m 36 Jackson tank destroyers were used for ?

I read somewhere that only vehicles with the rubber track pads got the grousers . Steel track didn't need the bars for traction .

Did Commonwealth tanks and other armoured vehicles have 'Mickey Mouse" camo as on the Achilles in the video? I thought that was reserved only for 'softies'. Of course, it makes the vehicle look a lot more interesting.

The technical demarcation between Mickey Mouse or not Mickey Mouse was whether the vehicle was considered an "A" Echelon vehicle or a "B" Echelon vehicle.

Combat vehicles were considered A echelon and support and non-combat were B echelon. This _usually_ meant that armour was A and softskins were B, however halftracks, White Scout Cars and C15TAs were all considered to be "Trucks, 15 cwt" and were B echelon vehicles and could be seen with Mickey Mouse camo as much as any other truck. Tanks, Armoured Cars and SPs were ALL A echelon vehicles and should _never_ be seen with MM.

Of course "always" and "never" are harsh words for combat formations.

The M10 17pdr in the video _shouldn't_ have MM. It _should_ have the MTP 46/4 Foliage scheme. If the owner has a photo of the vehicle matchng his markings in MM, then it is accurate, but if he just "liked" the MM, then it isn't accurate, at least withuot more evidence. Also, the application of the black roughly matches the Foliage scheme and not the MM scheme but the shapes of the edges are MM and not Foliage.

How's that for confusing?
