Question: Does the Iraq t-62 have side skirts?
I have been wanting to do a tank model for some time but haven't found any inspiration till this last war in Iraq with all the news footage around. Then I came to this site. There was alot of nice people giving some great advice.
I am building a tamiya t-62 and I have been reading old post and researched alot of news footage from both wars about side skirts on the Iraq t-62.
Haven't really found and answer, so I turned to the experts on this wonderful site
This is my first tank dio and hope it turns out as good as some of the gallery photo's I have seen from some of fellow modelers. I have got some good advice and detail work from some of the previse post on this site.
Thank You for your help

Well, depends on what kind of sideskirt you want. I have seen T-62M's in Iraqi Service with sideskirts and I have seen T-62A's and M's with the chinese "sawtooth" skirts.

Thank you very much Jacques
Did you see any without them because I am not sure I am ready to scrapt build yet. If I had to do something in 1/350 scale I could but not sure about 1/35 yet. I am gonna try small stuff I saw on a post yesterday he had a wonderful detailed turrent that made me go out and buy mine. I am new to 1/35 armour so taking it slow.
Thank you again very much

Well, i can offer you this...there are defiantely pics of the Iraqi T-62's without the skirts as well...usually in poorer condition though.
ALso, to point you to other items for the T-62, including a set of sideskirts, visit the site I run:
http://saammodels.tripod.com/companies/SP_Designs/conversions/index.htm
Kits 122 and 117 come with the sideskirts. Just gotta push those shameless plugs!

TOM,
IF you dont want to scratch the sideskirts. CMD and MB both offer them complete in Resin. And I think there are other companies as well, do a product search @ your fav web.
hobby shop. GOOD LUCK

Hey guys, thanks!
And the best part is that, as I say in my page headlines, I am not getting any money out of it...it all goes back to Sergej so he can make more conversions. Not sure if you looked at the future releases, but he will have a Full Resin accurate T-80UD out sometime in 2004. Right now he is finishing up his BMP-1KShM "potok", the command and control varaint of the BMP-1. And he has done stuff that I never thought would see the light of day, like the BTR-T and the Zoopark radars. That is why I "shamelessly plug" "my" site...I want to keep this good stuff coming.
And making us sovio-russio-philes happy in the process...well, who can argue with that?
On the T-62 series...the only real difference in the T-62M series is wether they were upgraded from a straight T-62 or a T-62A...the A's prettymuch had the AAMG, and the AAMG's were NOT retrofitted when the tanks were updated to M specs.
Also, the T-62 M series, aside from the AAMG, was kind of a "made-to-order" setup, so you could get a M with sideskirts or without, with the belly armor or not, with or without the glacis armor...etc. Even the BDD armor was optional (of course who would turn down more armor?) So this should allow you some freedom of creativity even if you are trying to be fairly accurate.
