Here is a diorama I recently put together showing vehicles of the Israeli army on the West bank of Suez Canal zone during the Yom Kippur war in October 1973. The models are: Tamiya M113, AFV club M-38 Jeep and the tail section of a Trumpeter 1/32nd scale MiG-17.
Cheers :-)

I thought the Suez canal was wider than that! I joke of course.
Really original idea for a diorama, good job. What did you use for water?

Hi Mandrake,
Yes, you are correct. The Suez canal is very much wider than my little ditch. I was actually recreating an imaginative scene that could have taken place in the adjacent "sweetwater canals" which are located further west of the Suez canal into Egypt. It is through these canals that the farmlands were irrigated with water originating in the Nile river. The Israeli crossing of Suez canal and incursion into Egypt occurred in the second week of the Yom Kippur war and lasted for months until the ceasefire was signed and the eventual withdrawal. Here are some photos showing the place.
The clear casting resin I used for the water effect is called: "Parks/ Super Glaze" Ultra Gloss Epoxy. It is manufactured in the USA by the Zinsser company. They have a website: www.newparks.com
I tinted the water effect with a brown powder pigment and got the effect of pond scum with a bright green powder pigment shaved in lumps directly into the puddle after it was starting to setup. It slowly submerged but not entirely giving the effect that I wanted.

For those that like figures, here are a few photos of the crew. The APC was entirely detailed in the interior, never to be seen again.

Very nice work man, the water is top notch. The whole scene is well thought out and superbly executed.

ED- I love it! Interesting subject, different, not usually portrayed here and well done throughout.
And to have pics w/ a corresponding, viable explanation is I believe, what this medium is all about.
Well played frogman
Cheers to you!
