What is the best way to replicate the tile roofs? Sorry if this has been a subject of discussion before.

Thanks as always

Well, here's one method http://users.pandora.be/ronny.noben/website/tips/roof-tiles.htm . For flat slates/shingles you could just use plastic card, cardboard, cork? or wood cut to suitable sizes.

Another 'substitute' material is the paper from grocery store bags, its thick and heavy and easy to work with.

Another thing you could use (for flat tiles) is a self hardening modeling clay. Roll it out flat (very flat) and then slice it into appropriate shapes and sizes. After it has dried you will have great little tiles.

I take plastic (or balsa) strips, and add wood pattern in it with a metal brush. All the way along the lenght of the strips.
Then I cut the strips to equal pieces and arrange a roof section with them. Cut them about twice as long as they are wide. When one row is done, start the next row, half overlapping the first row. Done.
