Hi all, along with this topic, I want to share about my build of an old set, but already renewed into Gen2: DML 6376 'Soviet Guards Infantry', that will be completed as a simple vignette. I just want to increase the technique of assembling figures and I'm very welcome for your constructive comments and critics. Here's the beginning:
The box art.
The box just opened.
The sprues.
The assembly guidance.
I will continue ASAP. Enjoy it guys!
Best regards,
Garry

Hello guys! Since my first post of this topic, I have to perform some extra efforts to analyze and share every progress I made. Maybe somewhat kind of review, but not really at all. Honestly, I love almost series kind of Gen2 figure set released by DML reflected by delicate picture presentation for each of them. But, when we deal with the real job itself, several improvements still needed to fix every 'hole' occurred.
I have done snap fit for 2 figures from 4 figures available. The major evaluations are that some unfitted part between one with each others as they're already red-circled in the following pictures (in the other word: more putty and valuable time needed to solve them ). I don't know whether that belongs to my negligence during the assembling stage or it really occur from the manufacturer itself (contradicting with images of finished figures that look perfectly finished as depicted in back side of the box). Simply I can say, when a part fit with another part at one side, no guarantee that it will fit at another side. My job progress so far:
I will share the other remaining 2 figures ASAP and thank you guys!
Kind regards from Indonesia
Garry

Recent update of these Russian figures set, these are th 2 remaining figures as I promised (so lllloooong ). I don't know whether I'm too stupid and careless or this Gen2 set was not too good manufactured, still fighting with the huge gap completely...
But, I will never surrender...
Kind regards
Garry

Wow! Kind of alarming to see such huge gaps! These Gen2 figs are supposed to be "superior"??!!?
But then again, a company that produces figs with heads split vertically.....!!
You won't give up, not you!!
Good luck
Cheers

Hey Garry, with Dragon it's hit or miss. I have a large stock of thier figures from the first to some recient kits. Some are a pleasure to build, others, well lets say you can insert some of your favorite words here. I don't remember having gaps like you have here but it could have been released from the mold too soon causing the gaps to shrink. I don't have this set so I can't compare the two. I wish Dragons Q.C. was a bit better. I am still waiting for the company to send 2 sets of ammo pouch's to correct the last U.S.M.C. set they released, about a year ago now. Anyway, some putty diluted with liquid glue will help fill the problem gaps. I have a bottle of it just for these types of problems. I use an old testors glue bottle and squirt in some putty and add the glue, mix well till I get a watered down putty that I can brush into the gaps. Works very well for the usual gaps at the waist line and smaller ones around the arms. Makes it easy to keep the details around the belts and wont hide the pleats in winter uniforms. If your mix is a bit thick, just smooth it over with the brush with a bit of liquid glue on it. Hope this helps the gap horrors youv'e got. Got mixed feelings about the split heads though, seems a bit over enginered to me. But the weapons in the Gen 2 are real nice. bob d.

I fully agree about hit & miss with Dragon.
The 2-piece heads are a real nuisance and hard to understand! Why do it???? Not even a tiny advantage as far as I can see (on the contrary!), ..so why??
And they pretend the figs to be something special!! Strange policy indeed!
Cheers

Many thanks for your advice Bob! I don't know what to say anymore since it was my first deal with Gen2 from DML (and that's why I quietly say, I love the 'Gen1' set ), may became too subjective if I observe just from one perspective, furthermore, just from my first set I deal with! That's why I said for "...never surrender...". I will post another progress ASAP. See you soon
Kind regards,
Garry

I don't want to make you disappoint anymore, just because exposing my work performed on one of the DML's Gen2 set, so next time I have to choose only the 'Gen1'! LOL

It seems that you glued the legs of the standing figure with the front part backwards. The reiforcements at the knees are facing backwards.
On what accounts for that specific figure the problema seems to be that.
I also have that set but still haven't started building it.
I really don't like the way Dragon has interpreted the Russian uniforms, specially the throusers and boots.
In my opinion -- far from a specialists opinion -- the best representation of Russian army uniforms is Miniarts, specially the set "Soviet infantry. Summer 1943-45".
Best regards,

No, no ,noooo!!!
You're abbsoluteeelyyy right Andre! You have an eagle eye even though you've never been deal with this set! When I read this comment, spontaneously I put such figure and realize how really stupid and careless I am!!!
I directly try to disassemble the figure and unfortunately the part was already too hard dried since from the time its being glued (of course! ), so it may failed. Consequently, the vignette plan may changed, just consisting of 3 figures rather than 4 as the set provides.
Thank you Andre for your very careful comments and I will search for Miniart set you meaning for or maybe Tamiya elsewhere. Have a nice modeling time for you mate!

Don't be hard on yourself, man!
Maybe you can solve it with carefull (and boring) X-acto trimming work, or by shaving off the pieces that composse the down part of the tielogreika coat and reproduce them with miliput (or any other modelling paste).
If not, you can still use the figures torso to produce a tank-man.
On what concerns anatomy and the interpretation of the Russian uniforms I really have a bias to Miniart.
The older dragon figures weren't bad either.
Tamyia ... well it is a question of taste, but I find their figures too simplified on anatomy and detail.
All the best and happy modelling!
