Hi there, just wondering if adding a metal barrel to the Tusk II, do I need a special barrel or simply add the regular M1A2 metal barrel like RB Model does or other A-M companies also make?

I'm asking the question because of the .50 Ma Deuce on top of the barrel in the Tusk II.

TIA

Yes, you can use any M1A1/M1A2 metal barrel. The barrel and mantlet are the same on all M1A1 and M1A2s; the M256 120mm smoothbore cannon. The .50 cal mount attaches to the light mount tabs on the mantlet.

@Mr Gino, I knew you would have the answer

Just for you, do you know if someone released a GAU-21 yet? My MH-60G is waiting anxiously.

ps: There's one in the Revell 1:32 Sea Lynx Mk.88A #04652. Not perfect but REALLY good.

No GAU-21 that I know of. There is this though...

Cobra Company HH-60G External gun mount

Not exactly the same, but it could be usable.

Not sure what kit you are building, but the RB barrel works on the Tamiya kit. You can adapt it to fit the Dragon kit with a little work, but it isn't a drop fit.

Cool, I will be doing the Tamiya. So one less trouble to think of. It's still in the box because I wait until I have all the pieces (AM stuff in the mail) here to begin building.

I hate having to stop a week or two because an after-market parts is in the AirPost (from China, it feels like a Post Office Bi-Plane sometimes)

I feel your pain- I always get ready to start on something when I see something from China that I just HAVE to have. Order it, wait 2 weeks and by that time I am on to something else (which also probably needs something located in china)

You made me a real LOL in the living-room while reading your answer. Specially what you have typed in the last (...)

Take care

The thing with metal M1A1/2 barrels is that the real ones have a seam along the bottom, a fairly prominent one, and the metal ones dont. So, the Dragon plastic one is actually better, in my opinion, than the metal after market ones

Marc,

These images show the seam and rivet line that runs along the bottom of the thermal sleeve between the gun mantlet and the fume extractor bulge that James is referring to (images from PrimePortal):

This seam doesn't appear to be present on the longer outer section of the thermal sleeve between the fume extractor and the end of the barrel.

Kind of tough to replicate. And I'm pretty certain you cannot buy just the Dragon Barrel?

Hmm, cannot edit old post of mine

Okay, does someone knows, for having installed it, painted it and all the hoopla if this one: OrangeHobby 1/35 113 M256 120 mm L44 smoothbore cannon Barrel for M1A1/A2 Metal found in ebay last nite, would make a nice addition on my Tusk II ?

Thank's in advance.

Another option would be the aftermarket Barrel from Voyager --> http://www.voyagermodel.com/productdetails.asp?itemid=VBS0164

From what i see on the photo the thermal sleeve is just made by two bended, overlapping brass sheets. Just add some rivet heads and you got your desired result.

It's a beautiful Barrel, no question about it but the Price is over 30 €uros here but Keep the fact in mind that it comes with the coaxial Browning M2. According to the fact that you're building a TUSK II the Money could be worth it but in my opinion it's not really a challenge to make the sleeve and seem yourself.

@Bernd: I'll eBay the cheapest Voyager's price. Maybe I could be lucky and go underneath the buyers radar and find a cheap auction and like last week, find a new 9.99$US Sgt York when I was trying to find one for 2 weeks and they all were over 50$US.

I could once again be lucky
