I've seen some old posts but all the pics are X out...

I've always been a fan of cold war and stuff (my generation). For the last couple of decades I've always thought about do a VISMOD from the NTC.

My thoughts were to scavenge an old Sheridan, Hummer, M109 or an M113 to create one or two...

In looking through the forum I couldn't find any that had actually materialized so I was wondering if there was any experience and wisdom I could soak up before I did this.

Any good resources, plans, dimensions? I know these were done in the shops so little standardization, but some decent resources or info would be great other than the old Google Images..

there may be drawings etc in tech manuals ? tho probably not online. Best to ask on Missing Lynx.

Tempted to do one of the VISMODs that Russia used ("M-60" or "Abrams" on soviet chassis) - a few photos on facebook.

I had a close encounter with M113 VISMOD (BMP-1)and M113 VISMOD (T-80) on Saber Junction FTX. BMP-1 VISMOD ssems quite easy, adding only the laser gun to an M113 A3. T-80 anmd BMP-2 have the same basic turret, but without measurements, it´s quite complex to get the shape.

I've had it in mind to do one ever since I photographed them at Ft. Polk.

I'm thinking the easiest way to do this one is to carve a wooden buck out of basswood for the turret and vacuform a new shell over it, then add details.

Hey Bruce,
If this becomes a build make sure to post plenty of pictures, I've been wanting to turn an old Tamiya Sheridan into a "T-72."

Sorry I haven't posted any new pics of the 60A2, not had a lot of time recently.

I think I might just have to do a Sheridan up as T80... I also like the M113 with the Bradley turret.. I've got plenty of old kits I built when I was younger I can pull apart for these... hmm..

I like all the picks and great resources. I thought maybe someone would have built a kit they could show off.

I did one about 10-15 years back, one of my first scratched conversions.

Damn - very cool... I'm motivated now... just have to decide M113 or Sheridan... Hmmmm... wish there were some detailed "walk-around" type of pics of various ones.

Stephen,
really like your VISMOD BMP-1. I was contemplating this version but guess I went with the one based on the Sheridan as I was intimidated at the time of duplicating the false running gear panels on the sides of the hull. How did you go about making yours ?

Hi sean
The running gear wasn't that bad to recreate, the front and rear panels are hollow so I used a vacform machine for these parts and the middle section is from an old esci kit.
The actual sprocket pieces were made from sheet plastic and lightly detailed then covered with a layer of fine sand.
