This is my 1st time hosting a campaign so hope it's in the right place.
After a chat in auto about new campaigns, there was a few people interested in a rustbucket/scrap build. Well I hope to include, armour, and ships(they always have some rust) as well as shinys. Start date would be maybe Nov. end of 2013.
Open to all suggestions, but the main theme would be rust.
Loads of potential for dios etc. but not limited to.
Cheers Pete

I could definitely jump in on this, any chance to try out new techniques or perfect existing ones is brilliant.
And if I can do that whilst taking part in a campaign where there are a group of people doing the same thing to draw inspiration from then all the better. It's exactly why I joined this forum.
Cheers

Hi Peter,
I have never tried to rust anything except for exhausts. I must admit it scares the hell out me
just thinking about applying rust or building a rusted vehicle.
But what the hell, I go for it. I'll try something from the Hohne firing ranges in Germany during the 80's
How long would this one run for?
I think a lot of people will need a while longer on this one, as it wouldn't be straight OOB. There's gonna be a lot of scratch and generally changing the vehicle of choice for
burned out, scrapyard scenes, hard targets, just forgotten, or not well maintained subjects.

I've always liked the idea of building a tank model as if it was in the process of being restored for display. Maybe broken down and in the process of being sandblasted. Would something like that be okay?
I'd have to find a kit with a decent interior...maybe AFV Club's T-34. I'm not sure if I want to break open the piggy bank for a full resin interior. Any suggestions?
But I have to ask...what about already started kits and what-ifs? If not, it's not a big deal.

Hi Alex a restoration would be fine, was looking at none started really. I surpose it depends on how much has been done, and if you are going to drastically change the model from where it is at the moment. Scratch building is defo allowed.Whats ifs is fine too.

Hi Pete,
exactly my kind of build - make it look old and worn out.
Count me in.
But from my point of view ONE YEAR is a little bit too long.
But otherwise, that's not important - it's the idea that counts...
Cheers

Peter,
Why don't you put this over on the rest of the sites to? Rusty robots on Model Geek? Trains on Railroad modelling? Etc.

Ok, I'm in.
This is the first time to me, building this way. I did some good business on the Ebay tonight. My subject is a 1957 Citroėn DS19. She will come to you all 'stripped' in a diorama I already started for my Sleeping Beauty.
I'm looking forward to the start.

Thanks Pete. I usually ask about started kits and what-ifs for these campaigns. If I can find a kit I'll probably do the restoration idea. If not, I'll find something else.

Hi Stephen and welcome. There are plenty of helpful hints on this site on doing rust or youtube. The AMT kits are a touch on the thick side, I did one not too long ago of a 57 chevy, so if you want to thin the shell down in places with a dremel tool to replicate holes with rust you will have to go heavy on the sanding. Hairspray method for rust is one of the tried and tested for replicating rust.
Good luck with your build Stephen, look forward to seeing the results
