While I think I know the answer, I haven't been able to find photographic proof; photos show pretty convincingly that the casting texture on the vertical surfaces of the hull is pretty crude, but does this extend to the horizontal surfaces of the hull roof (I mean, why wouldn't it, right?)? Furthermore what about weld seems, vertical ones for instance, along the hull; surely the entire hull wasn't cast as one? Really surprised by the lack of "walk arounds" for the T28, and I've peeled off just about every useful shot I could find via Google. Have I missed anything?

I'm just guessing here, but I think the roof plate of the T28 was just that - plate steel, and welded into the cast portion of the turret. Therefore the roof (and maybe other horizontal surfaces) wouldn't need any cast texturing.

I have a walkaround I did years back at Knox here: http://svsm.org/gallery/T28 In all honesty, outside of welds on the sponsons I didn't notice much in the way of structural welds.

Allied Axis #26 by Ampersand Publishing has an article on the American T28
It is "Out Of Print" but Spruebrothers currently has it in stock and it is on sale

Excellent Matt, exactly what I was looking for! This shows everything I need to see! Last night I dug into the few shots I had taken years ago, and while they show the extreme contrast in casting texture hull vs. outboard sponsons (this shot here as an example within your shots: http://svsm.org/gallery/T28/IMG_1053), I had nothing of the roof. And in some of the shots I found online I thought was seeing a vertical weld seem just past the gunner's (I think it's the gunner's) cupola on the left hand side. But your shots show clearly the hull is cast as one. I've been working away on this model and checking Google in my spare time (I travel a bit for my job, so when in the hotel room at day's end constantly going through Google) and was getting closer to finishing but hadn't answered these two questions, and now I have with everyone's help! Thanks!

Looking through the walkaround shots, is it me, or does the really rough casting texture taper off as you move down the hull? It seems that by the horizontal surfaces seen at the back of the hull the texture is effectively gone.
This shot seems to show the beginning of the transition just aft of the gunner's cupola on the LH side of the hull: http://svsm.org/gallery/t28/P1130956
Looking down the hull, the texture can still be observed, but it is MUCH reduced: http://svsm.org/gallery/t28/P1130958
Looking at the horizontal surface just below the crane, it appears smooth: http://svsm.org/gallery/t28/P1130995
As an example of how rough it is on the front of the hull: http://svsm.org/gallery/T28/IMG_1050
Looks like I might have to get the sandpaper out and reduce and eliminate some of the texturing I've done.

Yeah. You're right. The front texture is especially rough, which I tried to model (with mixed results) on a build review for this site. The sides are very smooth.

Yeah, that's actually a T-28 not T28

An overhead view:

I don't really see any visible weld seams but the roof and upper sides look very smooth.
