Thanks

E often stands for Ekranamy (or something similar) which means the vehicle is fitter with an improved protection.
I can't guarantee this is the case here.

I may be wrong, but I believe that the "E" designation is a "western" one, and not a soviet/russian designation.
AFAIK, the russian designation for this versión was BMP-2D (from the russian word "desantnaya").

O-o-o-o, I think, our chineese friends have some problems with writing))) We produce БМП-3Ф (BMP-3F), so they could make a mistake and write it as BMP-3E... Look at that BMP: http://www.kurganmash.ru/machines/bmp3/bmp3f/
It looks like a machine frome the boxart:

In Trumpeter's language the E stays for export.

You're right for the BMP-2 but this topic deals with BMP-3

It won't be the first time a manufacturer gives a fantasy name to a model or simply is confused between local denomination vs western denomination. So in Trumpeter's mind E could also be export.

The Russian word you have used is equivalent to descent meaning airborne, dropped, which is what the d is in the airborne version bmd, boyevaya maschina descentnaya ,combat machine airborne

As for the letter E in trumpy Boxart. I think it is just mistake. I'm not heard about E version. But maybe Chinese mean export version as EJASONK said.

А может, и правда, Е означает "экспортная"?.. И китайцы правы?..
Maybe, E really means Export?.. But I also couldn't find any information about it... BMP-3F must have a shields (wave proyection) at the turret, but they are empty at the boxart...

Seems that this is the vehicle represented at the box, but I still can´t say if it´s an F version with some differences with the standard F or an M version with just some of the upgrades.

Hi Guys;
According too Steve Zaloga in his Concord Book on the BMPs the "F" is for the Naval Infantry, and the "M" is for the BMP-3 with the Arena System. The kits that Trumpeter gives you are the Export version, which would be Greece, UAE, South Korea which only has Approx, 30 Vehicles. There were quite a few other Countries that showed some interest,
Thailand, India, Viet Nam, too name just a few. Other Variants are the Rys (Fox) which is a Recon version, and the Anti-Tank versions such as the BMP-3 Kornet. Also there are Recovery Vehicles based on the BMP-3 Chassis.
The other AT version is the Krizantema which is a longer range missile and is far more Lethal as its Radar Guided.
CHEERS; MIKE.
