Hi Guys,

I have just got this kit:

I want to build it with the machine gun on the turret.
It seems there are 2 versions included in this kit:

- Part no. E-15 - E-23

- Part no. B-44 - B-53

Does somebody know which gun parts are these?
I am no expert in russian tanks, this is my first russian tank kit and there is no instruction at all about these parts.

So please tell me which parts are more appropriate to use?
I want to build the Syrian version with KMT-5.

Thanks.

Hi Tirta;

So you got the Old Trumpeter kit !!
GOOD LUCK, the version with the Duska 50 cal M.G. now if you want our advice on this kit it would be too Scrap it and get the Tamiya kit. If your kit is anything like the ones that I had they were Impossible too work with. As the Plastic was next too impossible too get any form of Glue too adhere too, even Super Glue dident work.
This kit is not the Best by any means, the Detail on many of the parts were absent and the parts were over simplified . If your not into having a Accurate kit, then have a Go at trying too get it together. If you want too use it, there are a lot of After Market detail sets that you can get too make it a Better Build.
GOOD LUCK; MIKE.

This kit can be built ok, but it will need a LOT of work to make it accurate. Dimensionally it is better than anything BUT the Tamiya kit. It can be a fun kit to quick build. As mentioned, a small number of the kits were made of a plastic that only reacted with some VERY strong glues, like JB Weld. Just to be up front.

One thing that will be necessary to change out, really, is the tracks. Also, the placement of the suspension is off, so it may look a bit odd to your eye...maybe.

Here is a link to some scans that have the instructions to build the AAMG version. (Pgs 5-6)

The glue required should be Ambroid Pro Weld or better yet, Plastruct Plastic Weld. MEK based glues will not work.

Those will work too. Just as a note, I still have 9 of the old Trumpeter kits and ALL of them took normal glue just fine.

Thanks Guys for all the replies.

I have tried glueing some parts last night and luckily it turns out OK.
I use tamiya thin glue and revell glue, both of them can be used.

Jacques, thanks a lot for the link.
That is exactly what I am looking for.

However, I still confused about the difference between:
the first MG parts (Part no. E-15 - E-23)
and the second MG parts (Part no. B-44 - B-53) .

Instructions for both are them can be found here:
from your link:
http://trumpeter.miraiserver.com/box/Rev-Type59D/00315-05.jpg
and here:
http://trumpeter.miraiserver.com/box/Rev-T54B/I-T54B-05.jpg.

both are labeled "12.7mm heavy machine gun"
do you know what is the difference?

Yeah it should take glue normally. I've been modding one of these into a SU-44-122 from wot just for fun. Also have plenty of left over T-55 parts from two tamiya T-55 kits to improve some of the detail on another of their T-55 kits I have.

As for the MG's, Trumpeter base T-55 kit parts are used for all their T-55 variants and I'd say part of their type 59 or similar parts are in there. One of the MG's is a Russian DSHK and the other a Chinese Type 54 (Chinese equivalent of DSHK). I'd go with E 15, E 23. This would be the DSHK.

Hi Guys

Now if you really need a accurate Dushka then Miniarms would be my first choice, Even the It, weapons set with the Machine Guns and Sams would be a better pick. Overall with a little bit of effort there T-55s can be made into a nice model. And as JD has stated, replacing the Tracks are a Good First Step.

@ComradeMP
Yes, that is the explanation that I am looking for.
Thanks for letting me know.

@Garry
Nice to see a fellow Indonesian here.
I am from Bandung.

@Mike
Thanks for your advices regarding the after market parts for this kit.
However, for now I do not want to use after market parts.
I have just returned to this hobby, this will be my second tank build since almost 40 years hiatus and my first russian tank.
I think I'd better started with cheap kit and build it OOB, just in case my skill is not up to standard and ruin the kit.

Wah kang, oo gitu dari Bandung ya? Sama sih, pernah di Gegerkalong & Buah Batu tapi saya cuma numpang lahir aja, hahaha... Sekarang di Jakarta. Punten, ga buat pamer, cuma sekedar sharing aja, kalo kang Tirta mungkin iseng-iseng ngecek, I'm very glad to receive any constructive comment, especially from fellow Indonesian modeler also :

- "Wait for My Command!" Diorama
- "Komm & nimm es dir!(Come & Get It!)" Diorama
- "Not So Cold" Diorama

Yaah seperti itulah kang.. so, currently I'm in further learning and research on German WW II, land warfare in any European season and terrain. Good luck with your project and can't wait also for your progress sharing, since I also have interest in WW II and modern Russian armor, but not yet realized

Kind regards

Hi Tirta;

Yes those are accurate for there time period, as for the Finnish version you mite look at there Splinter type of camo, also. Built OOB you should be just fine, the kits track you will need too either pin the tracks from the outside or tie them too the suspension arms too get them too sag, or drupe over the road wheels in order too look accurate.

GOOD LUCK; MIKE.

Hi Tirta;

You Hit The Nail On The Head, those are the ones that you need. Very Nice and Accurate, the Colors look pretty close.

GOOD LUCK AND KEEP US INFORMED ON YOUR PROCESS.
