Hi all,
Wondering whether I could use the ICM Ford 917G kit to convert in to the 6-ton Marmon Herrington truck used by the British (like this one http://www.lrdg.de/v_marmon1.jpg )
I know of the existence of a 4x4 conversion kit which would guve me a front axle/driveshaft, but I need to resolve the arrangement of rear drive axles and for that I need to find detailed images of the underneath. Might be possible to do without buying two whole kits?
Wheels?
This will be my first kitbash, so any comments on the feasibility of this project much welcomed!
Will

Hi William
I'm not sure these will help you much, but here are a few pics of a 1940 Ford 098T chassis, converted to 6x6 configuration by Marmon-Herrington for RCAF domestic use :
Here's a 1942 Ford/Marmon-Herrington 3-ton truck :
and here's the underside of a Marmon Herrington 4x4 truck :
Maybe you'll find interesting stuff in Hanno Spoelstra's Ford/MH phto album :

Talking about a 1/35th scale model, here's the one built by Erik Ahlstrom.

Sounds like this would be my kind of thread but in this case I am mostly gonna have to sit back, listen and pick up whatever gems of wisdom I can.

Wow, Thanks H.P. That looks very much like the kind of detail that removes a lot of the excuses I had not to carry on with this project...
Most of it is going to have to be scratched-out, but I could perhaps have a go at copying the 2nd rear axle from the ICM kit in resin rather than purchase two kits for the sake of a coupe of pieces!
I have done a bit of googling about differences between German and American Ford 917 types. Only the German version had a single-piece windscreen. The Germans changed the fenders later on to a 'flat' type, but I think the ICM kit represents the original 'curved fender' type, so good to go there!
All I need now is an indication of the overall dimensions of the thing. Two different books quote different wheelbases. H'mmm!

In the interests of concentrating information, a couple of links I have found:

The tyres/tires for Eriks truck came from me, left over wheels from Italeri M923 and Erik replaced the rims with those from Miniarts GAZ trucks (sold separately in in boxes tailored for GAZ-AA or GAZ-AAA where the three axle AAA would contain enough rims I suppose ...)

I'm pretty sure this truck is fitted with the same wheels as those of the Marmon Herrington Mk 1 armored car :
Now you just have to find 2 IBG donor kits

Question: Are there differences between the German Ford cab, hood & fenders and its' pre-war US Ford truck equivelent? They seem to be the same. Could I safely use this kit to build a pre-war US truck?
I do know that the brush guard on the US trucks is distinctively different and that could be a problem for me.

Hi,
Being a newbie to the site can someone point me in the right direction re the superb, possibly a slight understatement, of how to create the phenomenal model of the 6x6 shown by Erik.
I am trying to create in 1/35th a scene where a LRDG patrol meets up with the LRDG heavy section, photos of said section seem extremely rare.
I need help in sourcing the bits and how to do it.
Thanks
