Hi Gang,

aren`t there plans underway to rebuild the Stryker FOV with a so-called double V-hull? A google search proved nothing specific. So I wonder if there are any unclaasified informations
how the V-Hull will look like. And BTW, any informations when the Paladin PIM (M109 A7?) will be ready for service?

TIA

The double V-hull Stryker is in use and has been for a few years now. So far, 2 BDEs worth have been converted. All in A'stan are double V-hull designs. A 3rd Bridage set is scheduled to be converted through a rebuild process by General Dynamics. (From Gen Dynamics News Article, dated 12 Sep 13 and an Army News Article, dated 11 Sep 13)

Sorry, no unclass info on how they look or work. Think MRAP-style hull with a V bottom to deflect blasts though.

The M109A6 PIM Paladin is supposed to be fielded to its first unit in FY 16. It will not be redesignated as the M109A7.

Hope that helps.

I think the Canadian LAV-UP will use a similar (if not identical hull).

Gotta love the US Military, we'll change the name if it suits us (B-29 vs B-50) and we won't change it if it suits us (M109A6 PIM)

This is generally a budget thing. Its easier to get continued funding for a program than to get funding for a new start program. So calling it "just an M109A6 upgrade" puts you in a better negotiating position. It works the other way too, like redesignating the M73A1 machine gun as the M219 to imply a much bigger improvement than was really being provided. You can rest assured that they may well assign a new designator once the thing gets fielded and funding is secured (just like with the decision to redesignate the Block III AH-64Ds as AH-64Es).

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but do any of the models out there of the Stryker represent the Double-V hull? Are there external differences on the hull that you can tell?

I have both the Trumpy and AFV versions in my collection (not built yet).

Thanks,

John

I would presume that there are no existing models of the redesigned lower hull/chassis yet (since the shape and details are still classified). Maybe in a few years time ....

Thanks for the quick reply. Wasn't sure if the changes were internal or external.

I'm currently working on a double v hull conversion on my afv club stryker. The hulls are completely different on the v hull. The Canadian stryker ( lorit) is competing different than the American stryker. I've got some info on the what the hull looks like.

The new Canadian LAV is being referred to as LAV 6.0 (last I heard?). It is larger than the LAV-III/Stryker hull so it would be a complete scratchbuild. Even the wheels are larger.
