Im starting to put some layouts together for my largest undertaking on a dio to date. Im still waiting on 6 figures but want to start the layout anyway. 2 figures will be serving/ cooking. 2 will be relaxing and the last 2 will be in line getting coffee and doughnuts. My proposition to all who read and reply is this...Put all the input together and come up with a nice setup for the dio. ( To bad I have to build it) Kind of like Armorama participation! This way we can say it was a group effort and I get to pick your brains. Thanks to all that join in!

Couple shots of the interior ( couldnt resist)

Are all of these kit parts or did you scatchbuild the house?

The truck looks like a modified roach coach... is this a real kit?? How funny!

Ok. lets see... two guys serving... What if one of them was fighting a grease fire on the stove?

Two guys lounging... Just sitting with food? Or do you want them doing something like arguing over something? Perhaps one guy has his food and the other guys tray is face down in the dirt. The guy either dropped it or the second guy bumped hiom and made him drop it... or the second guy bumped into the first, smashing the first's tray of his first hot meal in weeks all over his front and then to the ground...

Another idea is to have the two guys in line arguing over who was first in line...

Just some preliminary ideas...

Yes it is a real vehicle and sorry to say none scratchbuilt. What was typically served was doughnuts and coffee. Its the Red Cross Clubmobile. Like your thoughts Ambrose TY.

I would add some civilian female presence chatting with the guys at rest. Also the guys getting tha junk food could take a bottle of water also. consider the presence of some dog or cat trying to get a pice of donut, and the pet could also be escorting the female. Nice build so far and waiting to see the painting stage

Great Idea,
Look around at people in lines. Notice little things, like posture and head tilts.
Since your dio is a "slice of life", be sure to accessorize it with with with the little things that eyes don't catch first thing, but add to the realism; trash, weeds, empty cans, discarded items. Don't skimp on the groundwork, bushes, trees, dead leaves. They will bring the scene together like a photgraph of the real thing.
Keep us posted.

A nice touch would be a film crew (with their jeep) filming the 'chow line' . My initial thoughts were more bizarre #:-) I don't think Yogi escaping with a picnic basket or Homer's father with a stack of donuts would really add anything constructive to the scene. Why did you mention bears? #:-) Jim

I see a scratch built cart waiting in what could be the 'driveway'. A couple of GI's waiting next to or on it....

If you could turn the wheels of the 6x6 to the left it would add a bit to it.

Looking good, I love the conversion.

hey there

love the conversion great stuff - not seen a kit like that before. As for ideas - i know it may seem daft but i thought about either.......the house owner moaning cos the truck is blocking his garage, or arguments over getting a parking ticket, or some of the soldiers feeding an animal, like the house owners pet dog or something?

just some suggestions! great stuff uve got there

Nice idea there.
Here's a thought for injecting a little humor into the scene. With the 2 guys together eating, have the first guy distracted and looking away (maybe a third figure talking to him). Then have the 2nd guy stealing food from his plate.
You know, we've all done something like that
