Does anyone know of a US-based source for Tamiya Flat Clear (XF-86)? And for those who have used it, how does it perform? I'm interested in trying it out as a replacement for my current rattle can option.

Haven't seen it in the US. I personally use Vallejo flat clear which comes in much larger packages (60ml, 250ml). It sprays extremely well and a couple coats give me a dead flat finish. XF-86 is nothing but Tamiya matte medium + clear, both of which are readily available in the US.

Try Testors dullcote flat lacquer thinned with lacquer thinner for a perfect flat coat mate.

I have used both the Vallejo and Testors dull/flat coats and both are great. I wonder if the Tamiya issue is just the relabeling problem they had or something else.

I've used Vallejo in the past and while I had no complaints I prefer not to shoot different paint brands through my airbrush. I see XF-86 for sale on ebay so I may spring for a jar and see how it goes. Not sure why it has taken this long for Tamiya to introduce a clear flat. True, you can mix flat base and clear (or use flat base to dull down a gloss color) but that's like not offering green because you can mix blue with yellow. Anyway, if I buy the XF-86 I'll report back ...

Please report back. Although I have no issue with Vallejo flat clear, I do prefer Tamiya paints.
