Does anyone know if Trumpeter's D-30 "Late Version" includes the double-baffle muzzle brake? I keep finding conflicting info.
Thanks!

Apparently neither of their kits does. These are the "late" kit (2329) sprues:

And these are the "early" (2328) kit:

It looks like the only difference is the muzzle brake and towbar. What's odd is that the "late" instructions show this image:
http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10204979a/20/1
but the double baffle brake is nowhere to be found. My guess it was on sprue D2 that got lost somehow. i didn't realize that there were three different multi-baffle arrangements.

Thanks for the spue pictures, Kurt. That cleared it up.
That's what I found; pictures of a "late" howizter with the slotted muzzle brake and that line drawing of the double baffle one.
OK, next question:
Is there an aftermarket barrel I can steal the muzzle brake from?

Hi Chris;
Yes there is a AM Barrel, but it comes with the early Multi-slot type Muzzle Brake. Another source that you could use is the Old Skiff kit of the D-30 and cut the brake off.
I Built the Skiff kit and it was a real Pain, if you know what I mean, Overall it was o.k. altho Id like too see the two kits compared against each other. And you can still find the Skiff kit on e-bay.

I started the Skif kit - it is molded with the barrel in full recoil position!! Apparently the one they looked at/measured was a damaged one from the Gulf War stuck in full recoil with a broken mechanism - they never knew the difference
Fixed that problem but have still shelved it pending getting the Trump one.

The Skif muzzle brake is separate so it would be very easy to use. You might have to trim or shim to get them to fit, however. The Skif tires are worth looking at as well.
I would look at a local hobby show or swap meet rather than Ebay. On the 'bay they are asking about twice what a Trumpeter kit costs from a Squadron sale.

Hi Guys;
IMHO the Skiffs Tires are &*^# and need too be re-placed, and if I remember there is a AM set of them also that are in resin. Another Prospect is using other Tires from other vehicles. The only problem is finding them in the same size as the Rims. Ive seen the D-30 with different tires mounted on the rims. Another source is the 2S1, and you can get it pretty easy on e-bay. I see it all the time.

The 2S1 and D-30M did not use the same muzzle brake. Quite different designs.

One of these two sets should fit the bill

Guys, thank you very much for the information and insight!!!!!
I think my best COA is to get the Trumpeter kit and replace the muzzle brake with the one from the Skif kit. However, there is NO way I'm going to pay 25 bucks (plus shipping) for it just to steal the muzzle brake, so I'll have to shop around a bit.
And of course, as soon as I get both kits here, an aftermarket part will be released. Because that's how it works!!

Yeah, people seem to be dumping them now that the Trumpeter kit is out, I figure you should be able to find one for $10 or even $5 at a show.

Hi Chris,
PM me at [email protected]. I think I have a spare skif kit lying around and can send you the muzzlebrake. I have done this already to the Trumpeter kit myself using the skif muzzlebrake and it came up pretty well.
Best regards
