I bought some cobblestones from HansasystemsUSA:
http://www.hansasystemsusa.com/products.htm

The site shows how to lay out a cobblestone street, but here's the catch: I want to make a two-street intersection.

The question is, since the cobblestones are rectangular, would they go all in the same direction, or would each street be done the same pattern, with the area where they meet done its own way? I was planning to put in curbs and sidewalks with the rounded corners too.

I've only experimented with one cobble stone street intersection and this is what it looked like:

As you can see the stones on the street going left to right are laid down in one direction and the street going top to bottom has stoned laid in another direction. In my opinion doing it this way makes a cool visual distinction between the two streets and gives the layout a little bit more depth.

Hope this helps

Definately gives it more visual interest to have the stones going in two directions!

I'm sure there are many possible solutions - try using Google Images to see what's been done in the real world. You'll need to phrase it so you don't mostly get contemporary suppliers/builders of cobblestone.

Hi Tom,
You did it just fine. You only need one or two lines with opposite direction stones, at the ends of the street, where the sidewalk plates begin.
But it is not absolutely necessary.

I was planning to do a four-cornered intersection akin to Marty's sample, though I plan to add a manhole cover and drain grate, and would prefer to have two rows of "opposite direction" stones like in the Hansasystems sample picture. Trouble is, I wouldn't know what to do around the curved areas.

looking at some pictures I have,

You need to create a gutter by using 2 or 3 rows of sets running parallel with your curb, this follows your curb round the corners, you can then just bring your crossroads in a similar way to Marty's picture.

Also, if you look on the miniart website, under 1/35 Diorama Series, there are a few examples of street sections/crossroad / corners etc..

These will be quite accurate.

Hope this helps.
