Yes, Konig translats as King from German, so King Tiger, Konigstiger and Tiger II are all the same vehicle and represent no change in varian.
I'll defer to other more knowlegeable folks about the differences between the Porsche and Henschel turrets. I think one was more common, however.

The differences between the two turrets are evident ,one is rounder and sleaker while the other is more massive and squares off (Iknow it isn't square ...just boxier) Now what we call the Porsche turret wasn't built by Porshe but was built for his design of the proto type Tiger II...when he didn't get the contract there were already 53 turrets built ,...So instead of wasting them the were adjusted to fit the Henschel bodies...Some of the problems with the "Porsche" turret was that the rounded front created a shot trap that drove the incoming shels down into the lightly armoured hull top...Also with the comanders coupola it had a bulge on the side of the armor plate which was harder to manufacture...As for the name ...well it wasn't called the kingtiger or the Konigtiger at first its official name is the tiger II .The name just caught on by the troops...So if you were on the recieving end of the barrel you called it a Kingtiger ,and if you were watching it shoot at the enemy you called it a KonigTiger.... If you want to see a tweaks list for the kingtiger ...go to the missing lynx sight they have alot of tweaks lists you can use...but be prepared for alot of work...

Hey tazz,

You might want to hold off on the Tamiya kit for a few weeks until the DML Porsche King Tiger is released. It is going to include individual track links as well as PE screens for a cheaper price than the Tamiya offering.

TAZZ,
Yes I would wait till the DML kit comes out. The early Tamiya kit has it's faults. BUT the retooled King Tiger is quite nice. They also have Brass rounds, Engine screens, and an update set available as well. But since you get PE in the DML kit for probably less $$ ....I
Woul deffinatelt hold off. (:-)

HI, the number of the tamiya kit is 169 ( panzerkampfwagen VI, tiger II"KöNIGSTIGER" ausführung B, Sd.Kfz.182, Porche Turm) what'i a big name. You can find aber photo-etched 35 040 for it and FRIUL tracks and to finish JORDI RUBIO TANK GUN 88MM #JRUTG06 fro about 1.10 US dollars. happy to help you, bye. (:-)

why not buy both the Tamiya kits. They are both exquisite. Probly the only PE worth buying is the Tamiya screen sets. If you want to play bendy fenders get the Eduard PE set. Tamiya makes individual track link kit for the King Tigers, but their stock 1 piece vinyl ones are gorgeous

Hey Tazz,

Just an FYI that Missionmodels.com has the DML Porsche King Tiger in stock. You might want to take a gander at it.

The Henschel or "production turm" turret is the "production turret" - as it was the one produced specifically for the Henschel-chassied T2 - after the initial "Porche" non-product-standard turrets were used up - after the Porsche-chassied T2 was abandoned. These Porsche chassis were later used up on JagdTigers.

One other thing about the Porsche turms - they ALL had zimm... So if you don't want to do the zimm, get the Henschel turm, as not all Henschel T2s had zimm. BTW, the Tamiya "Ardennes Kingtiger" is a gem right OOTB.
