I find the beach a little odd for a tropical island - only 2 feet from the water's edge and the Sherman is up to it's sponsons in water. That's one steep drop-off!

Ah yes I agree with you. It looks like the tank buried itself in the beach sand
Very odd

Really guys; Tide low; Tide high, view in the opposite direction; Just one example.
M4A2's at Tarawa had no waterproofing. Chicago, Conga, Cherry, Clipper, Cobra and Cuddles all drowned out on the way in.
If I remember the diorama you are refering to I beleive the closest tank to be awash in this fashion is Cecelia after her barrel was damaged and she returned to the beach on D+2.

The pictures seem to show a drop off. The seawall was purposedly built so that during high tide there was no beach for the invaders as I recall. Are you going to build it?
I'm not totally against it, but Verlinden could have made the base maybe 2 inches (6 scale ft) wider to put more water between the shore and the Sherman to make it look more like the water is gradually deeper. The casting seems to be well done, but with everything moulded in place you don't have any placement options, and everyone who paints this dio will have very similar models. I would have preferred separate components ie; figures, equipment, emplacements, tank, so that the modeller could build his own base and place items where he wants. Then it becomes Your Own dio, and not a Verlinden dio.
