Is Vallejo varnish supposed to be like this?

I bought a 60 ml Vallejo matte varnish. It is much thicker than a Vallejo primer (looks more like a gel than a liquid). Is it supposed to be like this?

Yes, it isn't clear or very viscous. I thin with a touch of water and it brushes beautifully. Dries dead flat, almost too flat.

Are you saying (1) it is not clear and (2) it is very viscous compared to a liquid? To me, its viscosity is comparable to that of Model Color. I thought it was airbrush ready.

For me it is a little too thick.
I thin mine with Vallejo airbrush thinner for both painting on & airbrushing on.
I try to mix it so it has the same consistancy as milk then apply 2 coats leaving a minimum of 4 hours in between.
Hope this helps some.

Joe.

It does appear quite thick but with a sufficient PSI it will usually spray well. Test it out beforehand. If its not spraying well then thin it will some distilled water.

Sorry, that's what typing in the wee hours of the morning will do. As others mentioned, it is milky in the bottle, and compared to say Future or Testors Dullcote (from what I remember), is a bit thicker but dries crystal clear. I don't have experience with airbrushing, but again, it brushes nicely when thinned a little bit with tap water.

Thanks, gentlemen. When I saw milky jelly-like drops coming out of the bottle, I was pretty much sure that I got a defective one

It is a touch thick. It will still spray, just need a higher PSI to push it.

I usually just thin it 50/50 with Vallejo's AB Thinner, and it will spray pretty well at about 18-20psi.
