Sorry to be a bother but can someone give me a run down of white spirits vs turpentine and which I should go with using AKI washes and effects?

Steve it is not as easy as that as they are different things in the UK and the US.
In the UK White spirit is a cleaning liquid for oil based paints and is an oil based product. Turpentine is distilled from wood and is not I believe commonly used in modelling within the UK.

Steven,

I use ordinary odorless mineral spirits. In fact, I just did some weathering yesterday using a couple of AK's streaking effects solutions with mineral spirits. I use the same thing, ordinary mineral spirits, with artist oil paint washes, too, which, BTW, can be combined and used at the same time as the AK streaking solutions.

The mineral spirits I'm using right now is the bottom half of a gallon-sized container that I bought at Walmart over ten years ago.

HTH,
