I love this dio!

Superbe jungle feeling, moss everywhere, even on the sides!
Can you give us some more info on the plants used?

I have a Bhudda in my stash and your work is definitily a reference to use.

Really well done!

The base and groundwork look great. The vehicle and figures look like an afterthought to me though. They are overpowered by the huge base with lots of empty space. What are they doing? There is no story. Also, the V-100 was mainly used by MPs for convoy security on paved roads. It was not common for it to be deep in the jungle where this scene would most likely be. Lastly, where is the water going. It is a significant flow that is falling into a very small pool with no apparent outlet. At the rate it is coming out of the statue, it would be overflowing the pool.

Don't get me wrong, it looks great. There are just some issues I have with it.

I completely agree with you. I was overwhelmed by the nice vegetation on the upper 2/3 of the dio. The water issue is the most problematic.(and to much drybrushing on the figures)

Hi Dimitris, hi all!

I know the feeling of being momentarily overwhelmed by an impression...and your dio creates such an impression!

Of course the water must flow out of that bassin, or else...why have a bassin at all, right! But the outlet could f.ex. be at the bottom, i.e. invisible...or? Maybe I feel creative today...or not!

The V100 is a bit of a problem, as it was not meant to go into the jungle, but couldn't it just have made a small detour back from a convoy escort...just to see this shrine!!?? Just an idea..!

The deity figure might be wrong, but I'm no expert, I just put the question up (maybe) for our asian members. They will know!

The treatment of the figures however requires a tad more than creativity. What bothers me most is the uniformity, i.e. colour on one figure is identical from T-shirt to water canteen cover...and that is historically incorrest (even forget about that) and above all "boring" and unfair as the Vietnam kit especially grants the possibility to vary colours a huge lot!!!!

Drybrushing is not so much "too much" IMHO, it is rather wrong. But that's another story!

All in all, I really enjoyed the jungle feeling, especially the moss and weeds growing all over the place! Wonderful!
You can almost feel Malaria kreep into your body!!

Good show!!!

Cheers

Romain

The minor details have already been pointed out by others so I am just left to say NICE!!! Gives the look of the jungle right away.

I have to agree with the previous posters. There really is no "story." The ground work is great, but it really doesn't add anything to the story telling. You could lose the top 2/3rd of the diorama and be better off.

The objective was to raise the profile of background, as says the title ... Boudha's shadow ,the story was too simple and "convicted" in second role, deliberately ,like an ordinary meeting
for this reason, the protagonist is very visible thus as i imagined the scene ...

the Boudha, the atmosphere and the others
thanks

Congrats again on super job.
I wasn't looking so deep for a story.
But when thought about it couldn't this be the scenario?
A few grunts stole the vehicle from some MP's to go and meet some locals in a well worn area of bush.
Who knows, they might even sit in and cool down under the water flow. That's if they can plug up the huge cracks under the water that obviously allows it to rush away into the bush.

Great work Dimitris! I really like the groundwork. I think that the moss, mud and slime coating the steps and wall look great. I might suggest that you add a little more to the statue though: he does look remarkably clean compared to his surroundings.

All in all I think it's a good piece of work.I'm far from a figure painting expert, but I tend to agree the dry brushing is a little much. Also the standing figures seem to be rather lined up and not relating to each other.Ironically I have the same Academy figure sitting almost in the same position on a V-100 in a dio I'm working on.Personally the height doen't bother me.Love all the ground work.

Hi Dimitris,

Excellent ground work. Could you tell me how you did the moss?

Many thanks and thanks for sharing.

thanks Tom

hi Alan the moss made by mixing white glue(too little) with sawdust(thick) or wood shavings and green powder (pigment)

then i put a thick "piece" of this mix ,with a flat brush,on the surface
and when this dried,i stain it with some yellow-green colour
thanks

@Alan,

you did not yet read my book!

The method for the moss is the same I described.

Meanwhile I discovered that you can have mixes with an identical look ready made from all the usual railroad vegetation manufacturers à la Heki and Noch.
