Would it be acceptable to have a T34/76 variant fighting in the streets of Berlin in 1945? I am toying with idea of a German and Russian street fighting dio and the only T34 kit I have is is the 76 variant by Tamiya.

I doubt it, i'm not a T34 Guru, but I would imagine that all the T34/76s had been replaced by /85s. Sorry, Jim

Take care, sgirty

I guess that the Soviets used everithing they have to enter Berlin, and that includes the
T 34/76. Here I post a link to a site were there´s a pic of a model 1943 in Berlin 45.

The white band in the turret was used in Berlin. You can see it in the pic.

As a source, Soviet propaganda archives are notoriously unreliable. All of the allied/axis powers used propaganda for domestic consumption, the worst was probably the soviet union. They were not averse to dropping in early war footage or even re-shooting to give a better impression. The most blatant example of that was the raising of the soviet flag over the Reichstag, this was filmed the following day, due to 'improved' light conditions. I'm not saying it didn't happen I'm saying it would have been pretty unlikely, in this I'm with Squirty. On the subject, of the Sovs., the JS-111s which took part in the battle of Berlin? Propaganda at its most ridiculous....Jim

Hi Marty-
I would say YES to the T-34/76 being in Berlin. The following photo comes from Steve Zaloga's T-34 In Action book. The caption reads, "A T-34 Model 1943 precedes a column of T-34/85s into Berlin, April 1945." (page 32)
I'm not saying that Mr. Zaloga couldn't be wrong on this - just that I generally trust his information.

Ian, interesting picture. seems to be missing its bow MG and the main gun looks a little odd. Is it possible that this is a pic of a command vehicle? The main barrel looks too thick somehow.. now I've no idea if the sovs were using command tanks or not...amyone got any ideas on this?...Jim

Thank you all for your replies. Most of you seem to think that it would be OK to have the T34/76 fighting in Berlin so I am going to proceed with my project.

hi iagree some of the russian proaganda was suspect but the achive film was not it was actual film shot on the days leading up to the final day and several soldiers were seen to be shot in the most graffic way , as to the photo the hull is an early mid 1942 with early towing hitches on rounded nose but later mg armoured housing and drivers hatch - pity photo is not better but the gun looks very suspect and could be a wooden replacement for command tank , i will have to search out the book and get back to you when i have studied it more closely cheers ian
