I'm about to apply my first German tricolor camo. Do Tamiya users simply use "Red Brown (XF-64)"? Or, do they add another color to XF-64?

I just looked at my XF-64 bottle and don't notice a reddish hue; XF-64 looks like the color of light milk chocolate to me.

Chris,

My basic mixes for Tamiya colors on a German WWII three-color cammo are here:

Armorama::DML Panther G Late::Page 3

Please note that the mixes are by drop measurements and not by ratios. That is:

For the red brown, I used Tamiya XF-64, XF-60, and XF-55 mixed at 20:8:1. This is 20 DROPS of XF-64 + 8 DROPS of XF-60 + 1 DROP of XF-55 for a total of 29 drops of paint which is then reduced for airbrushing as described in that same thread.

A lot depends on your own interpretation of the colors after allowing for scale lighting effect and anticipated weathering.

HTH,

Your Panther looks fantastic. I'll follow your suggestion.

Something you should take into consideration is weathering. Unless it is factory fresh, the colors won't hold true. This is due to fading, dirt and dust build up and simply being used. Also, it is unlikely that the true red brown would be available for touch ups in the field.
