Wondering when the switch from OD to Forest Green took place.

Wanting to do a Gama Goat - early 1970's and wondering if it would have been factory painted in old semi-gloss OD or Forest green that became the base coat for MERDC

Doing a Germany / REFORGER era. I'd love to have a GOER to match but so far no luck except for expensive resign ones.

Also considered doing it in MASSTER but can't find the pattern like I can for the MERDC

Bruce, in 2nd Armored Division at Ft Hood between 1973 and 1978, we used the Goat in all of the following:

MERDC temperate forest
MERDC grey desert
Solid semi-gloss OD w/both white markings and black markings

The various brigades within the division were earmarked for different world-wide commitments, which explained the different MERDC schemes. The solid OD trucks were just the replacement vehicles that were shipped to the units, prior to any camouflage paint being applied. In 1973/74, we were painting many of our vehicles at the BN level, using the MERDC desert grey scheme.

BTW, the patterns extended into the cargo bed as well as the crew compartment. We tried painting the vinyl plastic cab and cargo tops, but the issued paint would not hold to the material without quickly peeling off. We adopted the use of the stock green covers instead. The ambulance Goats had the Red Cross markings on separate panels.

BTW, the PSM GOER was a good kit to build. Yes, a little pricy, and quite the chunk o'resin, and perfectly captures the early 70's Army vehicle look, in addition to the Goat. PSM made one of those also, which I have, and purchased in the belief that no one would build a plastic Gama Goat. Now that Tamiya has stepped up, can a GOER still be the impossible dream? Heck, Dragon just released the M103 heavy tank! Come-on, Santa!!
