Okay... so a M1A2 would carry a CITV unit on the turret, but what about the dazzler then?
And something else; if the M1A2 is the upgraded version of the M1A1(HA) why are so many M1's on duty these days (OIF etc.) just M1A1-HA and no M1A2 or even M1A2SEP's and wouldn't those tanks (M1A1HA) need the things as the dazzler or the CITV unit?
Thanks in advance!
Jurgen

The dazzler is used on the USMC M1A1s only as far as I know . The M1A1 heavys that are on duity in Iraq are from pre-placed stocks from Kuait and Saudi Arabia . The M1A2 is not used in every armor unit yet -(we got 4 of them - but they were sent back - got sent to us by accident ) . The dazzler is used to counter ATGMs and the CITV on the M1A2 is like a 2nd site for the tank commander to scan and locate 2nd and 3rd targets during gunnery and combat .

The M1A2 does not use the "Dazzler", or correctly called the Missile Countermeasures Device (MCD). Only USMC M1A1s use the MCD. M1A1-HA is a misnomer and not a true tank designation. The M1A2 is not just an upgraded M1A1, M1A2s were manufactured as such. M1A2SEPs were remanufactured M1s.
The CITV is an intergral part of the M1A2 series and is one of the identifying features of the tank. There are only three US units that are equipped with the M1A2 or M1A2SEP. These are the 4th Infantry Division, 1st Cavarly Division and the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. The 1st Cav and 3 ACR are not even fully fielded with the M1A2/M1A2SEP.
The 3rd Infantry Division, 1st Armor Division and the Marines were all equipped with the M1A1 during combat in Iraq. As far as I know, no M1 or M1IP saw combat in the Gulf.
