Been a while since I built a plastic vehicle so I thought it would be nice to do another Tilly over the holiday period. Thinking Alan Wicker in Italy, or at least an Army photographic unit.

If I've read Mike's book correctly colour would be SCC2 Brown with SCC1A Dark Brown. Time period would be September 43 onwards.

Just reviewed the Legends Update and Stowage Set so something new to pay with.

If anyone has a picture of Wicker's vehicle that would be nice. Thought I'd do this one with Heavy Duty Tyres.

Those tires are definitely cool. I too have the Legend set, sadly no Tilly yet. I'm curious about the extra wheels though. What is the purpose of them if you're already mounting the heavy duty tires?

Hi Alan. Nice start to a very intersting subject ...something similar to that I already have planned. Got the tilly, the hauler etch and the same Hussar wheels. I also got the Djiti Production figures designed for the tilly. Will also set my scene in Italy, but no camera men for me. I will be following your build, to see the in-progress shots. Im particulerily interested in the Legends set. Could you please show an image of both kit and Legends tarps beside each other, so I can see if I "need" this s well? Thanks Alan

This is the Legends Tarp





I have a review coming up on the set. Only issues I can see is that the top buckles/straps are not in line with the bottom set and I haven't seen that configuration on any of the pics I've looked at. The detail inside the tarp is smooth and no indication of the 'windows' but they have included the support poles.

It's too late to get a side by side picture. The Legends one will give a nicer finish but I have a few issues with it.

Hi Harald,

The AA Tilly is a nice kit, it was one of the first resin kits I built.

SCC1A Dark Brown: 7 parts XF 10 + 2 parts XF 1 - Lighten slightly for your kit.

SCC2 Brown: 5 parts XF68 + 4 parts XF 3 + 1 part XF1 - a fraction strong on the red and don't over do the black.

Those are the Mixes from Tilly Colours and I believe Mike Starmer's Tamiya paint mixes over on ML.

I'll adjust as I think necessary.

The tilt will take a bit of thinning down and I've had to make a couple of cuts to get it to fit but these can be filled in after the event.

Thanks very much for the photos Alan. I found some on PMMS after my post (didn´t know this set existed until I saw yours). It looks great. Very nice to include the image of the interior. I dont think this will be an issue as I can fill it up with something. But its always good to be aware.

The Legends Tarp is not a direct drop on. The pour plug on the drivers end means not just cutting that off but scribing a grove that will fit the truck. This took quite a bit of work. All the corner ends need to be as thin as possible and you can either cut off the fixing for the door on the kit or alter the end like the Tamiya fixation to get a mate. I choose to follow the Tamiya example but the missing tarp ends can easily be added at the end of the build with some Milliput. I'll also need to back fill the cut line which wasn't that sharp or easy to follow given the overspill from the plug.

Great job Alan. Good tip to ct out the corners. I see now what you mean about the tarp straps not lining up. Im OK with this ... as long as all 4 flaps are the same ... I actually think it looks better as well. Your last image is the bees knees ... so glad I stumbled upon this thread yesterday. I much prefer the wrinkled tarp over the flat sterile Tamiya one. Gives this kit a huge lift.

I saw different arrangements for the window straps but couldn't find one to match the kit tarp, but as you say it's not a major problem.

The radiator and cover needed thinned down a fair bit to get a decent fit, another scraping and sanding job, but once you get the excess removed you can then clean out between the slats.
