That mantlet seems to be a needless shot-trap .
Is that based on actual plans ? I know these were all proposed vehicles but that seems counter to the evolution of mantlet design

Might be a reason it never left the drawing board. A final production i guess they would have gone for something different. I felt like there was something missing. I thought i forgot something. But thats how it is drawn. Hehe.

The turret is actually a Krupp (well both Tiger II turrets were made by Krupp) early turret. The design had some big flaws relating to its a)shot trap b) the bulge on the side for the commander was a hard shape to make...apparently. Porsche designs tend to be unnecessarily complicated....
Very nice model.

The VK 4502 ( P ) Vorne ( Hobby Boss # 82444 ), the one with the turret forward had a raised lip on the front plate that acted as a shot deflector , so the Porche style turret was better protected , I guess they forgot to add a lip when they moved the turret to the rear .
