I was hoping that some of this sites more astute and informed readers could assist me in this question regarding Germany's ammunition availibility and usage during the later stages of the war, specifically 1944 and onward. Is it possible/probable that a shortage of brass would necessitate manufacture and use of steel casings for the Sd.Kfz. 184 Elefant's 8.8cm PaK 43? I have very limited research material and a web search has not helped either. Any input and/or photos of such ammo would be most appreciated. Thanking all in advance.

The short answer is yes - the Germans did use a lot of steel cased ammunition in just about all calibers, from rifle to cannon.

Yes, I agree with the other Mike. I seem to recall that they should have a greenish tinge to the natural steel colour owing to the finish on the steel.
