ok - so my next kit is the venerable Tamiya 1.35 StuG IV. I am adding eduard Zimmerit and then looking at a more interesting camo scheme than the box provided ones... box photo

so far I have put together the wheels and started on the hull & zimm (which is quite a good fit - any problems will be my fat fingers):

am thinking of doing this one of the schemes form the Dragon version - perhaps the yellow/green cross-hatch of the 17th SS Panzer at D-Day or 3-colour "squiggle" of the 24rd Infantry Division (Italy 1944)

progress - zim on, starting on skirts. Going to do them individual and from thin plasti-card to get a better scale thickness (using the originals as templates). first proof of concept one shown in-situ

Looks terrific and even though it can be a pain to put on, the Eduard zimm looks terrific!

thanks for that - it wasnt too bad for the zim... and yes it does make a difference....

any way - got the Scheurzen done, thin plasti-card and used the kit pieces as templates. Not 100% happy with the rear left panel so may "lose" that one... photos

some more work... the build is complete so now looking at figures. Thinking of the kit one plus 2 from a dragon set - the guy sitting down will be looking through binoculars... well at least it will give me some attempts at painting figures....

i added "hair" to the 3rd guy just to add some variety... not 100% happy but means i have variation)

Hair is a really hard thing to do, and it looks pretty awkward just because we don't see it in scale often.

Looks forward to seeing paint, Robert.

From what I can see in the pics, you're doing a bang-up job on this. Keep it up!

No worse than what my barber does It certainly looks different from the usual neat, parted one side look.

added some paint... tried the 3-colour scheme, think I need to thin the paint and lower the pressure a little - but for a first attempt....

also used micro sol/set for the first time... REALLY like the way it conformed to the zim....

Looks good!! Was it hard to keep the Zim plates glued down??? Did they lift around the edges? Tamiya also makes Sticker Zim for its Tiger I kit, I bought the Tiger I kit & the Tamiya Sticker Zim...it was "ok" . I prefer zimmed right in the mold..best one I seen so far is a Dragon King Tiger with Zim. Another good one from Dragon pre-zimmed is their Panther kit & Stuh42 kit. I just bought the Dragon Tiger I with Zim, the kit that just came out recently, but never got around to building it.
I like your finished model though, it turned out pretty sweet!
Did you use a dark wash on the zim then drybrush the top edges? That would bring out the detail.

with super glue it stuck well - the odd edge came up but not as bad as I expected...

i did use a dark wash but didnt dry brush the ridges... might highlight the zim better perhaps....

yes, highlight the zim..lighten all your colors in your camo & ever so lightly..do the top edges per color.
It turned out pretty good though. I like the Stug IV.
