Hi Guys,

Here is my Italeri commando car, with a few up grades,
two doors added as the kit doesn't have any, a Firing line models etch brass rack for fitting radios to added between the cargo area and the front, I made a radio bench and battery box for the Clansman radio that has a plastic weather cover on it, two scratch built seats are also added for the radio and observer in the rear, an Accurate Armour Bergen was sanded down to fit under the Value Gear large tarp.
I added a Verlinden MAG Machine gun on a pedestal to the front compartment.
Another piece of Value Gear stowage was added to the bonnet (hood in the US) along with a Firing line radio ariel box was also added to the front wing (fender) and an Ammo box was put on the front bumper.

The camo net was made from a Verlinden camo net glued to the body then I glued etched brass camo net(Eduard) painted with Mister Surfacer, I then added lead foil that was cut into thin strips. I under coated it with car primer and painted it with Humbrol enamels.... with a brush.

Well done indeed! Congratulations!!

Would the scrim really be that uniform in colour...or could there be other tones (natural f.ex.).
I'm just asking as it could bring a little diversity (if desired!?)

Cheers

Thank you gents,

Its not finished yet by a long chalk, the camo needs a bit more painting, a few browns and other bits to break it up a bit, the Mk 2 was generally out of service but I have seen video of a Mk 2 like this in the mid to late 80s, in use with one of the armoured regiments, I will have a 110 in the works in the next few weeks.

Also the crew are on the work bench at the moment.

A bit more work done,

I have added crew,(seated) made from verlinden Israeli tank commander torsos, FAMO crew legs and arms with a couple of Verlinden heads. the standing figure is a Tamiya Challenger commander.... again with FAMO crew arms and Verlinden heads.

THe driver has been sanded and undercoated, and the steering wheel will be replaced when he glued into place.

All is painted with Humbrol enamels.

Hello Gents,

l did some more work on the Land Rover over the last few nights... l painted the driver, glued him in position and put the steering wheel back.

I replaced the guy in the back with the Black Dog Argentinian prisoner of war converted to a British squaddie... Ooh the irony of it I removed the peak off the cap, put new pockets on the combat jacket re shaped the
trousers to look more like water proofs and shortened the boots to drop the overall height of the figure.

The Figures are painted in Humbrol enamels.

Looks great, good work on the camo. One gripe tho the hooded camo was not in issue in the 80s, it was a hood that was fastened by buttons, and yours look like SAS smocks. But it doesn't take away from the model, and they could be SAS or had been through selection.
Great build Anthony look forward to the conclusion.

Pete.

Much of the personal 'kit' was obtained by other means. Recce platoons often had the QM departments put in demand/requests for what was needed by these men (specialists) who operated without a top cover on the Rover's.

Some, like myself (CVR Crews), went down to the local Army and Navy store and purchased extra and needed items such as Parkas and water/windproof smocks.

We were issued with lovely 'comfy' Parkas during our winter exercises in Norway (AMF(L) but had to turn them back in upon returning..

Neil, The SLR is from the old italeri Modern weapons set and the Stirling is from Terry at Castoff models in the UK, he does lots of British stuff from the 1970s and 80s.

Thanks to everybody for their kind comments.

You need to put something on the head of the commander or show what he would be wearing very close by.

The radios would be in constant operation (headsets) and cables need to be added?

Still a nice model Sir.

Love to attend mate but the bus from here in South Carolina, USA takes to long to get there

He has also just purchased a very expensive 3D item that will enhance his detail and production capabilities in the very near future...

Sorry Keith, I didn't notice the flag (eyes being re polished in the diamond paste as we speak) Its good to hear that he has got a 3D printer, they are the future of the industry.

I have a Challenger 1, a Warrior, a Scimitar and a Ferret done up in BAOR colours with Iron hammer red forces markings done up as well.

Hi Guys,

another update on the Recce Land Rover

I have started on the smaller items like radio headset, hand set, a mug for the tea, flask, and other bits and pieces.

Constructive comments are welcome as always...

Anto
