Hello all,

I am about to make a final decision on purchasing an Iwata airbrush.

I have been reading the forums and the Internet about the difference between the Iwata Eclips HP-CS and the Iwata HP-C High Performance Plus.

My main use will be camouflage painting (1/35 vehicles or also 1/32 and some 1/48 aircraft) as well as shadowing lighting, base coats can be applied with my old airbrush.

The important difference between these two for me is the adjustable lever, which it should be used while painting the camouflage in order to keep same line width.

The question, will I be able to paint fine lines with the Iwata HP-C Plus? How much thin?

I saw on Iwata's website the table here: http://www.iwata-medea.com/products/best-in-class-rankings/

At the end of the page, on Plastic Kits and Scale Models, the HP-C Plus is at the end of the list, under the Iwata Eclipse HP-CS, isn't the HP-C Plus more "completed" than the Eclipse?

I hope somebody who has these airbrushes can tell me some info about this, as I said, my main aim is to use it for painting camouflage on 1/35 vehicles, 1/32 or 1/48 airplanes as well as lighting/shadowing.

Oh and I almost forgot, the paints I will be using will be from Vallejo.

Thanks guys!
Cheers,

Guillem

Hi ,I have been using the HP-CS for about a year now and have found it to be more than capable for my use , like you I build mainly 1/35 armour and larger scale aircraft 1/32 and1/48 . I generally use Vallejo thinned with their airbrush cleaner and Tamiya thinned with Isopropyl Alcohol and have found the Iwata copes with both very well , it's easy to strip down and clean but try not to use any cellulose type cleaners , these can damage the small seals , I occasionally use an ultrasonic cleaner to give it a deep clean , hope this helps , Birchy UK

I have an HP-CS and an HP-B Plus (the same as the HP-C Plus except the paint cup size).

1. It's easier to clean the HP-CS because of the drop-in nozzle. The HP Plus line has a screw-in nozzle, which is really tiny.

2. Obviously, it's a little bit easier to spray very fine lines with the Plus, but the CS is definitely capable of doing so.

3. The preset handle of the Plus is really nice. You could buy a preset handle for the CS, but the total cost would be close to that of an HP-C+.

4. For me, the large cup of the CS (also of the HP-C+) blocks my view when I need to spray fine lines on a model. Hence, I went with the HP-B+.

I guess you will eventually own both the HP-CS and the HP Plus

Guillem,
In order for you to be able to consistently spray the same width, you will need the preset handle or a very, very steady finger on your brush. I would suggest to get the C+ or even B+. The difference between the two, is the head nozzle and the cup size.
Another aspect of the whole setup is the compressor which you will be using. Make sure your compressor is able to handle low pressure settings and that it also has the moisture trap. I have recently switched from an old Iwata Smart Jet to a Power Jet. Yes, the difference in price is double (almost) and so is the experience I have with this new compressor - I wasn't able to spray Vallejo with the old, but this is another story.
As for airbrush, I do have the HP CS and the CM C. Couldn't be happier.
Hope this helps in your quest for the tool.

Thanks for your responses

Yesterday I have purchased the HP-C Plus, honestly because I found a very good offer on Amazon, I have seen that this airbrush costs from about 180€ (about 245$US) - 120€ (160$US) or even more in most of the online stores (available for my country or near).
So I was surprised to find it on Amazon for 108€ about 145$US, I couldn't believe it so I double checked everything, included it is the real one, new, shipping (free) and the fact it comes from Japan.

I am very happy to purchase this airbrush because I think is the proper one for me, I have read that everyone is happy with it, and tell you the truth is my first Iwata.

I have been using airbrush for almost 10 years, always using cheap airbrushes from no-named brands, just for general use, and finally I decided to have a big upgrade.

I already stripped down my Academy F16 and I hope to do some paint job over it

Thanks very much for your tips! I hope to use this airbrush soon as well as the Neo BCN that my father bought too, I am really excited to enter into this new world of airbrush painting for me.

Cheers

Guillem
