Hi All,
Despite having Thursday off due to a snow storm, I did not post any pictures, so here they are. Starting off, I completed pin wash on the hull.

I gave the muffler a couple of passes of the pin wash solution to dull it down and make it look rusty. I may go back and hit it with some reds and/orange oils.

The tracks were next. I completed the second track and checked out how it would fit on the base.

I then measured out how much of the rubber track would be needed and spliced it in.

Last, I did some work on the base. I added some grass clumps, which will get some repainting as I think the color is a little stark. There will also be some Woodland Scenics grass in the base's future.

All for now.
Regards,
Georg

Hi All,
It's been a bit since I posted last, mainly because I've been really busy, but I have gotten some stuff done. First off, was the dot filters on the turret. I may go back and add some more lighter colors, but on the whole I think this one is done.

I also did some work on the tracks. I got them painted, and washed, now they got dry-brushed and then rubbed with "Dark Steel" from the now-defunct AK Interactive line from their Engine grime set.

All for now, more later!
Regards,
Georg

Hi All,
Thanks for the kind words Steven. Another day, another mind-bending modelling adventure. Well, actually it was yesterday, but mind-bending nonetheless. Anyway, I did more dot-filter work on the model and this time, I concentrated on the front pontoon and the vehicle sides. with the pontoon, I'm aiming for a salt-line from where it sat in the water. I think I need to work on it some more. I also gave the decals a good saturation of Mr. Mark Softer to snuggle the decals down even further.

I worked my way around the hull and I think I'm going to need to add more lighter colors to mix for better contrast and tonal variation.

Finally, I did some work on the base, mainly dry-brushing some yellows in to the vibrant green grass tufts. I think it turned out rather well.

I think tomorrow is going to be "do or die" day for this thing. My wife has plans for the day, so I am going to hunker down and build models. See you tomorrow!
Regards,
Georg

Wow, this is really starting to take shape and fast too. I started one but got sidetracked but I think this has given me new inspiration.

Sitting on the edge of my seat! I like what I see so far.

Hi All,
I got a bit of time today,as planned, to work on the model. First on deck was the exhaust shroud. It needed some attention with rust-colored oils.

Next, was to complete the dot filter treatment. I worked on the top plate and was quite happy with the results. You will also notice the newly-drilled bolt hole for mounting it on the base. In addition, you can see the control lines I made from stretched sprue on the lower edge of the picture.

I went back and added more "salt stains" to the hull to show where it had sat in the water. I think it turned out OK. What do you think?

I am rapidly closing on on completion of this one. I'm still at a quandary as to what to do with the suspension as far as weathering is concerned. Any ideas?

Georg

Hi All,
I really agonized over what to do with the lower hull on this beast. After some consultation with a couple of friends, I decided to use sand-color pigment powders to make up a "sand slurry" for the lower hull. I dug up some MP Powders (anybody remember those?) and made up a (you guessed it) slurry of powder, white glue and windex (to speed drying) and splattered it all over the lower hull, suspension and tracks.

After I took these pictures, I hit the model with some clear flat and let the whole thing dry. I'm hoping to some of the last construction bits (mainly the windows on the conning tower) tomorrow night and final assembly over the weekend. Until then!

Georg

Hi All,
I got some time last night to put the finishing touches on the model. I got the windows mounted on the tower, got the tracks in place and pinned the front float to the base. I've got a couple of small finishing touches to add, but beyond that, I'm calling this one done. In my research, I found out that the Philippine campaign was an Army-only exercise, so the USMC figures would not have been appropriate. So, without further ado, here's the finished Type 2 Ka-Mi:

Once I make the final adjustments, I'll break out my photo-booth and take some "professional" pictures. Thanks for watching/reading. Now, on to the War of the Worlds Sherman!
Regards,
Georg
