The last few days have been a challenge in terms of site management. I am going to be blunt because to be very honest I have only so many hours tonight to prepare the inaugural newsletter announcing our 2-year anniversary and I want to get on that.

I would like to remind everyone that ALL POSTS are open to individual interpretation. What you THINK someone is saying may not be what they are really saying. This is basic online chat/forum 101 stuff. So I just wanted to make this FACT clear. Here is what I would recommend if you have an issue with what someone is saying.

1. User A makes remark. "I am having some problems with the site. It seems it is really busy with lots of users and I haven't been able to make a post. I really wish they would go away".

2. User B reads and is shocked to think User A wants him to go away.

3. User B thinks about reporting this post to a moderator, or webmaster, but finally decides to contact User A and ask why he would say something like that.

4. To which User A responds. "Oh! I meant I wish all the 'problems' would go away!"

DOH!

Okay this example may be a bit simple but TRUST ME. I have been on the net for going on 12 years and this happens A LOT! And even if it's not a complete misunderstanding chances are it's certainly something that could be resolved if the two parties are amiable to exchanging a few PMs or Emails.

Of course sometimes there will be users who just don't like each other (imagine that!). And to these situations I would say... "It's a big site. Don't get in each other's space and I don't think you will have a problem."

I hope I am being clear with this post. I am not saying (for those who contacted me recently with issues) that your issues are not important or valid. I am only trying to avoid the ones where the issue cannot be concluded to be anything other than a misreading of the facts at hand. If a user is harassing you, making obscene comments, or otherwise disrupting the site then by all means contact a moderator or myself. But let's try to have slightly thicker skins when dealing with comments that you "think" you know what that person meant by that clever phrase he wrote. Because if it's not crystal clear.. "I hate this guy!!". Then there is likely little I am going to do about it. Sorry...busy busy with trying to actually get new content published, new editors online, advertisers, etc.

Thanks for reading. No Reponses required but if you feel you MUST say something please do.

Hi Jim,

I just want to add my two cents.

Internet is an international thingy. Armorama is an international thingy. English is the common langauge. But for a lot Armorama members English is a second; a third or even a umpteenth language. So for all those native English speakers, do bear in mind that other cultures and languages sometimes have other interpretations.

Now down from my soap box and back to modelling.

(Who am I to step on the soap-box...)

Just wanted to say;
Jim I'm just happy that you have to deal with all of this and not me...

Now let's drop all of this, shake hands and start talking models

Hoo-aah

Thanks Jim for addressing that issue. Lets weld on some additional armor plating and continue on with the mission at hand. After all, this is the best modeling site out there, lets keep it that way!! "HOOAH"

Huh,
Jim, I've been having the same problem with my two youngest sons, ages 4 and 3..."he was looking at me" "he touched my toy"....hehe

as for the extra armor plating, i prefer to sit at my computer in the buff, so, the metal might rub against my skin and cause me to chaff...

now lets get back to building...and a HOOHAH for HARV too

I cannot possibly agree with this advice ! It would be terribly misleading towards young modelers if they get the impression that you can model with shaking hands !

The use of too much caffeine and sigarettes makes this only worse. Please note that some prescription drugs can lead to shaking hands, too.

Oh come on! Caffeine does no harm to modelbuilding...

*looks at pile of unfinished models*

...Okay, maybe it has a negative effect on the attention span. :-)

I know this is but I all I am saying that some (most) of us are here to have a time and may be just a little #:-).

Nuff said.

I loath all whimsy! No comedic relief! Bah! Humbug!

I really like comedy in its pure form: National Lampoon's Vacation, Three's Company in its heyday, Laurel & Hardy (classic stuff), The Thin Red Line...

But man - Daggits just wipe me out - like Ewoks. So cute and cuddly, me precisssousss

And lo...the creator (George Lucas) created the Ewok to market to the children of our race....

And when he had created them he smiled. For indeed they were cute and cuddly (very unlike the Wookies).

And it was good.

:)

No making fun of Star Wars!

Thicker Armor Required: Hmmm... Chobham? Laminated steel-rubber-and-ceramic tiles? Spaced? Electro-armor? Liquid Metal (tm)? I'm getting confused...

VBG! Okay - I can suffer the Ewoks to live on DVD forever...barely...

But, those vile, lowly, fuzzy, yucky creatures that shall remain nameless (Daggits if you didn't know what I was talkin' 'bout) are just wrong! Simply wrong!

Now watch - when the new BG comes to the air in summer 2004 - I bet these creatures will be on screen. Heck, probably the mascot of the mighty Galactica. Probably on the box of Space Flakes that Boxie eats - whenever they find food...

Naw, thinking about it, I am being pretty harsh towards the Daggit - I really only despise them...

I'm torn between the curiosity of not knowing what a daggit is, and the horror that would likely follow when I find out.

Yoda, having just discovered (thanks to a series of hints) you really DON'T want to know. Some things are not suitable for an adult audience....Jim

Gunnie knows I have an actual photo of said Daggit. I will not post it again. I would suggest that we all just drop the entire subject. It really makes him crazy. Trust me. Ewoks pale in comparison (sp)

For those of you that are still curious, look for Shaun's post in the TV?Movie section under one of the Battlestar Galactica posts. And I am in accord with Gunny the less said about Daggits and Ewoks the better. They give SCI_FI a black eye
